Airdate: Genius

In this UK show members of the public pitch their wacky inventions to a panel of celebrities.

With Qi settling into a regular Friday night slot, ABC1 is set to premiere the UK light entertainment series Genius.

Based on a BBC radio show, this had two seasons in the UK in 2009 / 2010. Series One had guests including Catherine Tate, Jonathan Pryce, Frank Skinner and Johnny Vegas, however ABC1 will begin from Season Two.

Celebrity chat meets inspired thinking in this new series of Genius where host Dave Gorman and two special guests chew over the ridiculous, unworkable but sometimes genius ideas pitched by members of the Great British public.

The format is simple: members of the public send in and pitch their inventions, schemes and policies to make the world a bit more fun… no matter how ridiculous.

Whose idea will Dave and his guests deem bona-fide genius?

This series showcases hundreds more extraordinary and amazing concepts as Dave welcomes two special guests per episode from a diverse bunch of celebrities. This week Dave is joined by comedian Russell Howard and sports presenter Hazel Irvine. The ideas pitched include a health and safety conscious way of being angry and also a quick and easy way of doing the ‘Top 50 things to do before you die’.

9:30pm Tuesday February 14 ABC1.

  1. Why are the ABC treating QI like this? They move it around the schedule as much as Ten does with their shows.

First it was Tuesday, then Tuesday and Wednesday, then just Wednesday, then back to Tuesday, then Thursday, then a later slot on Wednesday, and now Friday?

  2. The UK has so many great comedy panel shows, I wish we could get them all here, and I dont mind if we have to start from the current season, we can always catch up with old episodes during production breaks like we have with QI.
ABC2 would be a great channel to air these if the main channel doesnt have the room. I’d personally like to see the following:
Have I Got News for You
    Would I Lie to You?
    8 Out of 10 Cats
    Mock the Week
    Never Mind The Buzzcocks

Also, haven’t found Alan Carr: Chatty Man overly good so far. He is funny normally, but not keen on the show. I read he was offered 4m pounds to do another two years worth of episodes.
