Grammy stars remember Whitney

Jennifer Hudson sings a tribute to Whitney Houston at the Grammy Awards, while singer Adele sweeps the trophies.

The memory of Whitney Houston has dominated the 54th Grammy Awards held today in Los Angeles.

Houston’s sudden death drew many emotions from music industry performers during Red Carpet interviews.

Host L.L. Cool J opened the show with a prayer for Houston.

“There is no way around this. We’ve had a death on our family. And so at least for me, the only thing that feels right is to begin with a prayer for a woman we loved, for our fallen sister Whitney Houston,” he said.

“Today our thoughts are with her mother, her daughter and all of her loved ones. And although she is gone too soon we remain truly blessed to have been touched by her beautiful spirit and to have her legacy of music to cherish and share forever.”

It was followed by Grammy footage of Houston singing and a standing ovation.

Other acts performing and accepting awards also acknowledged her passing.

Singer Jennifer Hudson performed I Will Always Love You (pictured) following the In Memoriam section.

But in the all-important Grammys wins, UK singer Adele swept the awards including Album of the Year and Record of the Year and there were performances by Bruce Springsteen, The Beach Boys, Tony Bennett, Adele, Glen Campbell, Chris Brown, Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Paul McCartney.

The ceremony was broadcast live in Australia on FOX8.

  1. Good on Adele… It reminds me of years ago when Norah Jones came onto the scene and dominated everything. Here’s hoping Adele’s star burns for a bit longer than Norah’s though..
