Actor Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone, Dexter) has been cast in the CBS pilot which puts its own contemporary spin on the Sherlock Holmes stories.
Titled Elementary, the US reimagining is unrelated to the BBC’s Sherlock (the latter has even warned the former not to resemble its own) and set in New York City.
Miller, last seen as a killer in Dexter, will play the Holmes character.
Robert Doherty (Star Trek: Voyager) will write and executive produce with Sarah Timberman (A Gifted Man, Unforgettable) and Carl Beverly as executive producers.
Elementary is one of eight drama pilots in contention at CBS.

UK Sherlock is so amazing, this can never compare. I don’t know why america insists on doing this.
Aaaargh – such mixed feelings! Remake of UK modern classic? No thanks. Johnny Lee? Hell yeah? I’ll give it a shot and hope for the best.
“Holmes – why is this door yellow?”
“It’s a lemon entry my dear Doctor Watson.”
I’m here every Thursday, folks. Try the veal…
US copies the UK yet again … tragic! Very few original ideas in that place … the UK Sherlock is brilliant and any other remake is a waste of time and money…
“It’s CBS, they don’t get anything right.”
The Big Bang Theory, moved it up against American Idol and it’s now wining the 30 min time slot and getting 16 million viewers.
NCIS, one of the top drama’s in the US and still going strong after 9 season.
I think they get some things right, but I’m just not sure if this is one of those occasions.
I’ll probably check out the pilot but not holding much hope this will work in the long term.
Don’t they have enough Sherlock type characters with the likes of The Mentalist, House and even Castle?
Ha! All we need is for Angelina to dump Brad for Benedict & the circle will be complete!

Argh! I know it’s been on Foxtel, but I had managed to so far avoid finding out that he was in Dexter. I’m guessing that he’s in S5 and, as there appears to be some sort of sinister group operating, he is likely to be their leader and Dexter’s main antagonist. Not a major spoiler but a slight grr.
Anyway, I enjoyed him in Trainspotting and Eli Stone so I’m interested to see whether the Yanks get this one right. One thing Sherlock doesn’t need is more explosions.
Jordan Chase/Eli Stone as Sherlock? Interesting
I’ll probably watch the pilot episode and find it boring, before passing on the rest of the series. That is, presuming it even gets ordered to series.
Time for bets on who is going to be the better contemporary Sherlock Holmes – Benedict Cumberbatch or Jonny Lee Miller.
Loved him in Eli Stone and am still shattered that it was axed when it had such a great cast (with the main one being Natasha Henstridge who is a lead character in the new hit series The Secret Circle). Will be great to see him back in a crime series if the U.S. can develop a good twist on a over-used concept (e.g. maybe make it more The Mentalist then Sherlock).
looks like moriaty in the BBC version
I dont see this working, but let’s wait and see.
