What’s Liberal MP Christopher Pyne like as a chef? Pretty hopeless, apparently.
So when he has to cook for Annabel Crabb on her upcoming ABC series Kitchen Cabinet he asks friend Amanda Vanstone to take charge. Was it like that in the Howard Government too?
That’s what this new series is really all about, chatting to politicians in an informal environment and finding out more about them in unguarded moments. Lots of metaphors in the kitchen too (where are the knives people?).
But Pyne has a bash at the BBQ before Crabb asks him whether he has any friends on the other side of the bench.
Kitchen Cabinet will air on ABC2 beginning 9:30pm Wednesday February 22nd.

I am so sick of the sneak peak for this program. 3 or 4 times a night during prime time and the bloody thing goes for at least 5 minutes. I say the ABC make up the time with Tropfest short films (as they have been a bit) and keep ads to 30 seconds tops. The same thing happened with SBS’s Go Back To Where You Came From, it was advertised so frequently and the ads were so long that on principle I didn’t watch it. Despite it being a vaguely interesting idea, I will definitley not be watching Kitchen Cabinet.
I would eat my own breakfast sausage if K-Rudd went on the show.
K-Rudd would be perfect for this 😀
What about a dinner with Kevin and Julia? I’d watch that.
“You’re not overcooking it are you” Said Vanstone. That’s her cookbook and the 1st recipe is “Howard’s sending me off to Italy with no Italian in me” The 2nd. “Cooking with Pyne and Crabb” Not Pine nuts and Crab.
I see The Age was quite taken by the clip I chose….

Very much looking forward to this. I’m a big Annabel fan. It’ll be interesting to look at politicians from a different angle, listen to them in a different context. Or we could just come at it with our firm pre-conceived opinions…..
Thanks for the critique, @Stan, but being a keen follower of Australian politics, my personal feelings about Christopher Pyne and Amanda Vanstone are based on their political records, and on that basis I make my judgements, ergo, Pyne is one of the least liked politicians in Canberra, and is utilised by the Coalition as a head kicker and all round hard man. He may well be human but I haven’t seen much evidence of a heart 🙂
No, we can’t have a program that humanises these people. Let me keep my ill-informed perceptions of politicians & their motives so I can feel better about myself. Hmm… What have I done for the world lately?
I choked on my muffin when Christopher Pyne said, no, I don’t have any friends on the other side of politics. The first half of that sentence would have been more than appropriate. And @Dr_Rudi, I am so with you on that dress. I have frock envy.
@ Arjan, Haha! thats funny.
It seems funny that you have Vanstone and Pyne on such a show and Vanstone talks about healthy eating and Pyne talks about friends. Is this a mockumentary like Summer Heights High or do these two not know how stupid they sound?
Catchy title, vacuous content. What does this series expect to achieve? Is this a continuation of the new ABC Lite? Perhaps Amanda Vanstone might now write a book called “How John Howard appointed me Ambassador to Italy despite having no diplomatic qualifications and no Italian.”
Pretty hopeless as a politician as well. Hopefully he finds his calling one day.
What are they making? ‘Food for the Souless’?
Surely he does a nice souffle?
Look, I know this is not what the show is about – but – that’s a beautiful dress Annabel is wearing. And Christopher Pyne doesn’t have any friends because he’s a complete ****head.
