From Monday night Lateline will invite a ‘Guest Tweeter” to provide online commentary, beginning with Shadow Minister for Communications and Broadband, Malcolm Turnbull @TurnbullMalcolm.
The tweets will not be seen on screen during the broadcast, but viewers and tweeters will be able to join in online or on their mobile phones by following the #lateline hashtag.
Selected tweets will be read out at the end of the program when possible.
Also featuring next week are Nobel-winning physicist Professor Brian Schmidt (@cosmicpinot ) and The Chaser’s Chas Licciardello (@ChasLicc).
The ABC1 show intends to invite a ‘Guest Tweeter’ to participate each night the program airs. Viewers can suggest future ‘Guest Tweeters’ – from any walk of life – via Twitter (@lateline), by emailing [email protected] or by calling 02 8333 3822.

Why is the ABC, and in particular the ABC News division using taxpayer money to promote a third party, offshore, commercial venture?
Surely this has to break some kind of ethics rule?
Thank god they won’t be seen on screen!
The tweets on screen on TV shows are no more than screen pollution…
