MasterChef filming in Tasmania

MasterChef has landed in Tasmania for a number of episodes, as part of a state-government tourism exercise.

MasterChef landed in Tasmania today for a number of episodes, as part of a state-government tourism exercise.

Tasmania’s Minister for Tourism, Scott Bacon, said, “Filming here in Tasmania will give viewers across Australia the chance to see some of our top quality food and wine and find out why Tasmania is so special.

“Along with this national exposure, the production will also give Tasmanian tourism businesses the chance to benefit through other partner promotions timed to coincide with the airing of the ‘MasterChef in Tasmania’ episodes.

“Funding for the MasterChef opportunity is coming out of Tourism Tasmania’s existing marketing budget, and is being directed back into the local tourism economy through purchase of accommodation, transport and hire services that support the MasterChef production visit.

It isn’t the first time a state-based tourism body has wooed the TEN Reality series, with Victoria featured in the first season. WA was featured last year. The year the show opens with episodes in Melbourne.

MasterChef will shoot several episodes in various locations, all of which are remaining under wraps.

Any thoughts on locations? Cradle Mountain? Salamanca Markets? Cascade Brewery? Cadbury Chocolate Factory?

  1. My Husband’s a baker in New Norfolk (southern Tasmania). He received an urgent knock on the back door of the bakery last night. A very anxious caterer needed a large order of rolls this morning for the Masterchef group. Not sure if they had been let down by another bakery, or just very unorganised!
Fingers crossed they all enjoyed them 🙂

  2. Depends where they go….
Up North they could do Ashgrove cheese, Avners Chocolates, Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm, Mt Gnomon Pork, and I think there is a Wagu producer up there as well. There is also the Harvest Markets, Evendale Markets and Deloraine and Burnie Markets.

Out West they could do Salmon.

Down south there is Salamanca (though not much produce there), Farmers Markets every Sunday (Lots of produce), Bruny Island (Cheese, rabbits, pork, smoke house, oysters, salmon), The Huon Valley (enough roadside produce that you can make a whole meal from farm gate stalls and honesty boxes), The gourmet farmer also lives down the Huon past Cygnet (though there may be conflict of interest there!). There are also salmon farms on the Huon with Tassals, and a massive PYO orchard near the airport. There is also the Agrian Kitchen near Lachlan which has ready made cooking facilities.

Guess it depends what type of challenge they are doing! I will take a bet that Tetsyua turns up, as he is a Tasmanian Food brand ambassador.
There are some Amazing restaurants in tassie, and some brilliant chefs. I mean Alistair Wise (ex Gordon Ramsy Maze) has a gorgeous pastry store in North Hobart called Sweet Envy (very bad for your waistline). Alistairs Mum Sally is also an accomplished cook/preserver with a couple of books to her credit.

  3. Don’t try Cadburys on a weekend…. they’re not open! We were Sorely disappointed on our trip! Check out the Cascade brewery I say! Was Fab (even though they made me change out of a lovely denim skirt into some of their Very unflattering blue pants for the tour! 😉 Salamanca Markets are cool – there is this lovely, funky, little cafe in the square there.
