Seven's AFL team includes Bruce McAvaney, Dennis Cometti, Leigh Matthews, Tim Watson, Tom Harley and Matthew Richardson.

Seven has announced the commentary teams for its four weekend games of AFL Football.

Friday Night commentary team consists of Bruce McAvaney, Dennis Cometti, Leigh Matthews, Tim Watson, Tom Harley and Matthew Richardson.

On Saturday afternoons, commentators are Hamish McLachlan and Seven’s Perth sports presenter Basil Zempilas, Mick Malthouse, Tom Harley and Brett Kirk.

Seven’s new Saturday Night coverage will feature Brian ‘BT’ Taylor, Luke Darcy, Cameron Ling and Matthew Richardson.

Sunday afternoon the team is Bruce McAvaney, Dennis Cometti, Tim Watson, joined by either Cameron Ling or Brett Kirk.

Managing Director of Seven Melbourne, Lewis Martin, said: “Like every footy fan we couldn’t be more excited about the season ahead. It was in May last year that we first drew up a list of our dream commentary team. Well, we’ve drafted exactly that dream team, and now they’ve lined up in their positions. We can’t wait for the opening bounce.”

Depending on the game, the roster of commentators is subject to change.

Broadcast times for Victoria / Tasmania are:
Friday: 7:30pm
Saturday 3pm, 6:30pm
Sunday: 3pm

Queensland and NSW will get four games in every round live on 7mate. In NSW, all matches involving the Sydney Swans and Greater Western Sydney Giants will be broadcast on 7mate. In Queensland, games with the Brisbane Lions or the Gold Coast Suns will be shown.

South Australians will see a minimum of four matches per week live or near live on Channel
Seven, including all 42 matches involving the Adelaide Crows or Port Power. West Australians will see a minimum of four matches per week live or near live on Channel Seven, including all 42 matches involving West Coast or Fremantle.

All finals will also be broadcast live on Seven and/or 7mate around Australia. We’ll have the Brownlow medal too. And the AFL Grand Final will be exclusively live on Channel Seven.

  1. Seven’s Saturday Night AFL coverage by Brian Taylor and Matthew Richardson …ruined yet another night’s enjoyment of watching an AFL game. This time it was the Crows and Collingwood. Their commentary code? Why let an informative running commentary of an exciting game get in the road of irrelevant conversations, personal recollections and obtuse comments? Seriously, does anyone at 7 hold these 2 accountable?

  2. Danny King is the most biased commentator on the team. Check it out, he will never mention Dockers or Eagles in his commentating, although he will make reference to their coaches.

  3. peter- I reckon they will air it on 7mate as Live than a replay on Seven. So does this mean that 7Two will air Wimbledon Live or 7mate while Seven will be airing V8 Supercars

  4. @Guy, I agree, hamish Mclaughlan has no personality. I find it hard to watch him. Seven could do much better. seven’s team are all a bit boring. Seven should of got Eddie maguire and gary Lyon. They are by far the best.

  5. Cannot wait to watch all matches live on Foxtel, especially the NAB Cup, Friday night footy, my beloved Eagles, all finals and the AFL Grand Final (only time I’ll tune into 7).

  6. It’s been know since the rights were announced last April that 7 would boardcast games on 7 mate into NSW & QLD and not on ch 7.
Now it be interesting to see what the boardcast times will be in SA and WA for ch 7 games throughout the year as there has a uproar in Perth about Friday night match on Ch 7 on delay by 2 hours. It will a week to week thing with the fixturing of matches during the year.

  7. Can’t wait for this brave new world of live footy in Sydney. Looking forward to hearing Malthouse who was very good in his finals stint with Ch10 a few years ago and the BT will bring much needed colour to Ch7’s commentary team. I don’t mind Hamish on Game Day. I like the low brow familiarity feel of the show. Agree with JB about David Schwartz – he took himself far too seriously considering his footy credentials.

  8. So to confirm, the Swans/GWS games will be shown on 7Mate in Sydney, and not on the main channel? That’s what the story says, but I don’t know if it’s a mistake or not.

  9. Hope the commentary choice returns on Fox Footy so that we do not have to hear Bruce, Dennis, Hamish, Basil, BT and Co. Would love to watch Friday Night Footy with the crowd yelling ballllllllllll in stunning HD.

  10. I think Mick Malthouse is being underutilised by only doing Saturday afternoon games.
I would have thought he would slot into the Saturday night game but I guess it adds some serious credibility to that Saturday arvo slot.

Love BT’s commentary on the radio and Foxtel, nice to see he’s made the switch to Seven.

  11. I don’t like Hamish McLachlan. What do Seven see in him? He fronts everything these days and he isn’t any good. Give him the flick and give us someone else.

Should be great to get live games of AFL on FTA. The NRL could learn from this. We want live games on FTA. Having no NRL on Saturday at all on FTA is a joke. One thing i do think is bad about this AFL deal is Foxtel gets every game live! We have sold out to PayTV and that shouldn’t happen but that is how it goes and this comes from someone who has PayTV. If we had more games on FTA then maybe i wouldn’t have to pay for tv.

  12. JB, Port Power (and I go for the Crows, so I’ll call them whatever I want!) only have 3 games on Seven.
    Rd 2 1.45pm Sat v Ess
    Rd 6 2.45pm Sun v Rich
    Rd 8 1.15pm Sat v NM

    So only get Hammer twice!

  13. “West Australians will see a minimum of four matches per week live or near live on Channel Seven”

Near Live = We’ll start showing it just before it’s finished in the Eastern States.

Or I could just watch all the matches live on Foxtel. And that’s what I intend to do.

  14. Hopefully instead of an alternate schedule for 7Mate they just do a HD simulcast the football – the games should be native HD with how Foxtel are promoting it.

  15. And David we are Port Adelaide not Port Power. Can you change that please cos it really pisses me off when we get called Port Power. You wouldn’t say West Eagles, St. Saints or Gold Suns. Don’t say Port Power.

Channel Nine take note. 4 AFL games live in NSW & QLD on 7mate. So how about 4 games of NRL live in SA on Gem??

  16. Oh bloody hell. Port have a lot of Saturday arvo games. I hope they’re all broadcast by Foxtel so I don’t have to listen to Hamish McLachlan. He is terrible, why do Seven persist with him. Cos of who he’s related to? He’s terrible on Game Day, even worse at the tennis, now they’re letting him commentate footy. Bad bad bad.

Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday are great line ups though. Good to see they axed David Schwartz, but the addition of Hamish McLachlan kinda cancels that out.
