Veteran UK actor Frederick Treves, who  specialised in playing men in positions of authority, has died aged 86.
Treves was the great-nephew of Sir Frederick Treves, the surgeon who rescued Joseph Merrick, the “Elephant Man”
He began in the BBC soap The Grove Family, in 1956. He appeared in the TV series Maigret, The Railway Children, Lucky,  The Naked Civil Servant, The Sweeney, Inspector Morse, Kavanagh QC, The Regiment, and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates.
In an acting career that lasted for well over half a century, he also had a lengthy career on the British stage and in films.
