The Australian Defence Force is investigating claims that serving members have posted racist and sexist material on a closed Facebook page.
The move follows a story on 7:30.
The site has more than 1000 former and serving Royal Australian Regiment soldiers with offensive comments about women and muslims.
Army chief Lieutenant General David Morrison told ABC in a statement that the issues raised were “serious.”
He said army headquarters was working to determine if any serving members were linked to the offensive comments posted on the Facebook page.
“Where they have been I intend to take action to deal with them to the extent that our policies and the laws allows,” he said.
Defence Minister Stephen Smith launched six reviews into defence culture last year following a number of sex scandals, including the so-called ‘Skype Scandal’ broken by TEN News.

I was just stunned with everything that took place in 2011, that this can happen in 2012?
