ABC3 sci-fi drama delayed

Big-budget ABC3 sci-fi series Resistance will not go into production this year.

The $14m 30×26 episode co-production between Persistence Productions and Canada’s Shaftsebury Films was commissioned by the ABC.

The series produced by Andrew Dillon and Geoff Bennett was originally due to begin a 23-week shoot in October, trumpeted as the first major production for South Australia’s new Adelaide Studios complex.

SA Film Corporation had paid $850,000 to secure the project with 450 production jobs.

The series has previously been described as “a mash-up of Alias meets Buffy meets Transformers meets Spooks.” But in December it was revealed it would be trimmed back to 13 episodes, due to story changes and script rewrites.

The Australian reports today that the Syfy channel (US) has pulled out of a pre-sale agreement.

ABC3 Channel Controller Tim Brooke-Hunt has said the series needed refinancing but was confident the series was still alive.
