Caitlin Stacey assaulted

Former Neighbours actor Caitlin Stasey and her sister were assaulted by a group of girls but ignored by passers-by.

Former Neighbours actor Caitlin Stasey has taken to Twitter to reveal she and her sister were assaulted by a group of girls.

The incident occurred in Mentone Village, in Melbourne’s south east, in front of passers-by.

“With my sister, in broad daylight, three girls surrounded us, attacked us and no one did a thing. Congratulations society, you astound me,” she posted.

“We are fine, just completely terrifying and unjust. To anyone, who is the victim of violent or verbal bullying, I sympathize whole heartedly,” she wrote.

“There are not harsh enough penalties for teenagers responsible for violence. Where do you think violent adults come from? Teach them young.”

Stasey, 22, played Rachel Kinski on the ELEVEN soap for 4 years. She also appeared in The Sleepover Club and Tomorrow When the War Began.

“I hope any of you who have had to suffer through bullying know that you’re not alone and it’s not okay. You don’t need to settle for poor treatment. EVER.”

  1. All of the reasons which have been listed for this story are valid. the lawsuits, the bystander effect, the selfishness etc. Its a shame, more to the point i think its more problematic that they were attacked. where ever it was that place needs better security.

  2. I will and have called the police when witnessing violence or dangerous behaviour, but being a small female my “intervention” is pretty much limited to yelling out that I have called the police, if I put myself in physical peril I’ll end up a victim too.

  3. This is probably an example of Genovese Syndrome, also known as the Bystander Effect. It is a phenomenon in which the more people are present to witness an emergency situation, the less likely any of them are to intervene. Most people hesitate, waiting for somebody else to do something first. When nobody acts, they assume the situation is not as serious as they originally thought and that no assistance is required.

  4. @Jake – would this be the same society where we can declare that we hope that a certain program is axed and that all associated with it are never seen again just because of an off-hand remark by one of the hosts and a temporary co-host?

  5. Her response to this alleged assault is yet another example of why the victims of crime are the last people who should be commenting on sentencing. “Teach them young”. By doing what? Putting them in juvenile detention where their bad attitudes and negative life experiences are reflected and reinforced by almost every aspect of their environment and interactions? Yes, well I guess it will teach them how to cope in prison.

  6. There are too many stories of good samaritans getting seriously injured while trying to intervene. I think this makes people reluctant to help out nowadays. If this happened on the train line as was reported, the authorities should be able to check CCTV. There’s generally not enough security presence on suburban rail which is the underlying problem.
