Leigh & Jennifer win My Kitchen Rules 2012

Leigh & Jennifer have been named champions of My Kitchen Rules 2012, winning $250,000 cash.

Leigh Sexton & Jennifer Evans have been named champions of My Kitchen Rules 2012, winning $250,000 cash.

They scored  58/60 points after cooking a five course meal in the Seven reality contest, including two perfect scores of 10 points.

The pair defeated fellow South Australians Nic & Rocco on 52/60 points.

Leigh & Jennifer served up Crab Congee, Scallops, Quail, Wagyu Beef Ribs and Chocolate Hazelnut Cake.

“You girls never give up. It was a beautiful five course meal,” said judge Manu Feildel.

“I can’t believe it,” Leigh, 33, said. “I didn’t think we’d get in, let alone win. It goes to show, you can do anything. Anything is possible. This is the proudest moment of my life.”

Jennifer, 25, added: “Food is our passion and to end this competition as the winners is an unbelievable feeling.”

Nic & Rocco cooked Seared Moroccan Salmon and Tuna, Bug Tails, Spatchcock Two Ways, Poached Pork Belly and Chocolate Raspberry Pop Delight.

“A very adventurous, unique dessert. It ticked all the boxes,” said judge Pete Evans.

The boys said, “We knew when we were going up against the girls what was ahead for us. The best team did win this competition. They deserved it.”

The finalists were joined by former contestants, family members and guest judges Tobie Puttock, Guy Grossi, Karen Martini and Liz Egan.

The show has been a big hit for Seven, delivering figures nudging 2 million viewers and helping the network to win every week of ratings so far this year.

“It’s been an amazing journey and we encourage everyone out there thinking of applying for the next series to just do it,” Jennifer said. “We had the time of our lives.”

  1. @The moops. They also said the caramel on the top looked messy and rushed.
I’m not saying they don’t deserve to win but 3 judges gave them a 10 when they probably should have got a 9.

  2. Great performance by both teams, actually surprised to see Leigh and Jen got 10s from some judges while Nic and Rocco received none.
@Kenny: I think the final episode was recorded in late November or early December last year. Jen said in a number of media interviews that she found out during the recording of the show that she was pregnant. When the finale was recorded she was still in early stages of pregnancy.

  3. I am sick of hearing/reading about the damn stupid chocolate. Get over it viewers, it was never part of the dish, it was an extra ‘nice to have’ if they had time.

As explained many times today by Manu, Pete & the girls – if it did not work they had a backup plan, which they ended up using. The girls were deserving winners.

Prior to Nic & Rocco entering the competition, they worked (for 6 months) in a few of Adelaide’s key restaurants (with Head chef’s& teams) to prepare themselves for the ‘under pressure and somewhat stressful conditions’ of MKR, and it certainly payed off.

Was it fair? Does not bother me, but I am sure it bothered a few, infact many if we can take Twitter as an early guide with hundreds of comments about it from day one of the boys being announced as part of the MKR final teams. Instead everyone is complaining about some stupid white chocolate that was not part of the menu. Get over it viewers – The girls just had a better night.
