UK supernatural drama Being Human has been renewed for a fifth season, albeit with a shorter run.

The series with a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost, will return for 6 episodes instead of eight.

The renewal comes despite changes from the original cast, including the exit of Aidan Turner and Russell Tovey.

Creator and exec producer Toby Whithouse is keeping plans “closely under wraps” but confirmed that the werewolf and vampire from the current series, played by Michael Socha and Damien Molony respectively, would return.

Whithouse said viewers had “taken the new cast into their hearts with enthusiasm and affection”.

“We’re delighted to have this opportunity to expand the world further and explore new characters and tell new stories. A heartfelt thank you to all the fans for their unstinting support, and to the BBC for letting us mess up the sandpit for a fifth year.”

The series airs in Australia on ABC2.

  1. The reboot has been fantastic and not only have they survived a cast change, most fans seem to rate Hal and Tom over Mitchell and George.

A shame it’s only six episodes next year, but with BBC3’s budget slashed I’m just thankful it has survived as it could easily have ended up being axed purely due to cost.

  2. haven’t seen season 4 but the thought of replacing 2 of the 3 main actors makes me sad, I did still enjoy misfits once nathan was gone but this is the majority of the cast. Why is there such a high turnover with actors in english shows?
