Airdate: World’s Most Dangerous Roads

Charley Boorman and Sue Perkins join British celebrities tackling some of the world’s most perilous roads.

It’s a title that sounds like a lightweight clip show on commercial TV but World’s Most Dangerous Roads, but SBS will be hoping for more with this new three-part series.

It features six British celebrities tackling some of the world’s most perilous roads.

In Alaska, Sue Perkins and Charley Boorman struggles with Arctic conditions along the notorious Dalton Highway; in Nepal, Rhod Gilbert and Greg Davies travel through a country with one of the world’s highest rates of road accidents; and Ben Fogle and Hugh Dennis undertake a dangerous journey from the Andes mountains in Peru to the Amazon river.

Comedian Sue Perkins and adventurer Charley Boorman travel across Alaska to the notorious Dalton Highway – a dirt track built in the 1970s as a supply road to support the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline.

Highway maintenance is a full time job here with avalanche units operating throughout the year. As Arctic conditions close in on them, the pair have to rely on the help of hardcore truckers for whom the highway is home. The rules of the road are simple: keep the CB radio switched on, don’t exceed 80 kilometres per hour, and when an 18-wheel truck comes thundering down the rollercoaster of a road towards you, get out of the way!

Wednesday, 18 April at 8.30pm on SBS ONE.
