EXCLUSIVE: The Logie Awards has apologised after broadcasting a photograph of actor David Gulpilil during the In Memoriam section, when it was paying tribute to actor David Ngoombujarra.
David Ngoombujarra, who appeared in Australia, Rabbit Proof Fence and The Circuit, passed away last June.
Veteran actor David Gulpilil is alive and well.
In a statement, Nine and TV Week said, “Nine Network and TV Week apologise for the incorrect image of David Ngoombujarra used during the In Memoriam segment of the Logie Awards telecast on Sunday night. We regret any distress or upset caused to his family by this error and apologise.
“We also apologise to David Gulpilil and his family for the incorrect use of his image in the segment.”
Despite alerting viewers to an upcoming photo of a deceased Indigenous person, the mix-up is highly embarrassing.
A much-younger David Ngoombujarra is seen here with Australia director Baz Luhrmann.

What a ridiculous error.
Another reason why another channel should have a chance to run it..
What a disgrace.
Apology is not accepted.
That is a bloody disgrace. Would they make the same mistake with a white fella?
Whoops, and whoops again because it so sensitive already being indigenous related
Not good. Considering how different their surnames are how do you make a mistake like that?
A certain Today Show entertainment reporter wasn’t in charge of the segment, was he? LOL
But seriously has thus kind of thing happened before?
Oh wow that is so incredibly awkward. What an awful mistake to make…
