Nine wins Monday, ABC takes third.

The last night of a long weekend is traditionally big in audience numbers, and Monday was no exception.

The last night of a long weekend is traditionally big in audience numbers, as we bed down for the working week and last night was no exception. There were healthy rises across the board.

Nine just pipped Seven for the night (its second in a week), led by Nine News on 1.22m, although it ranked second in all five markets. It was followed by The Big Bang Theory (989,000 / 890,000 / 790,000), ACA (905,000), and Alcatraz (596,000 / 458,000).

Seven News topped the night with 1.64m, bolstered by a lead in from AFL football in some states. Today Tonight was 1.34m, then Home and Away (937,000), Dog Patrol (704,000) and Coastwatch (603,000). Criminal Minds was 521,000 and 439,000.

ABC took third place thanks to ABC News (1.03m), Australian Story (890,000), Four Corners (888,000), a rise by Q & A (863,000), Media Watch (834,000) -but 7:30 settled on 711,000.

The Biggest Loser also benefitted from the holiday on 1.01m. It was followed by Bondi Rescue (715,000), TEN News (639,000), NCIS: LA (558,000), The Project (501,000) and Hawaii Five-0 (384,000).

On SBS ONE James May’s Man Lab was 223,000, Mythbusters was 179,000 and Shameless was 127,000.

Heartbeat led multichannels with 305,000.

  1. There is no way Ten will ditch Biggest loser next yr. Most watched show on Ten most days even though figures are down because of comp from mkr, should start staying above 900,000 most days now.

  2. Sorry …I agree with nik c…nothing I wanted to watch….I usually do watch Q&A…but not interested in either of those men or what they had to say….
    Horses for courses I guess.

  3. The Biggest Loser is guaranteed to remain on Ten for at least the next few years…it’s one of their highest rating shows. There was never a question it would get renewed.

  4. TEN need something. Coming in behind ABC1 consistantly is not a good look for advertisers.
7 News Melbourne loves AFL, 9 News Sydney loves NRL.
TBL may have scored well, but still lost out to ABC1 News.

  5. Considering it is the only show that Ten has that can get over one million at the moment and come first in the demographics, it would be silly not to. It has shown that it is pretty consistent over the years, as it’s been on for around 7 years now.
