Renewed: Late Show with David Letterman, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Letterman will reach 32 years on air, eclipsing his idol Johnny Carson.

David Letterman and Craig Ferguson have agreed to continue their US talk shows for at least two more years.

Letterman will reach 32 years on air, eclipsing his idol Johnny Carson.

News had circulated for months that Letterman had decided to sign with CBS for another year or two, but there was no certainty it would see him remain as a late-night talk host.

The news ends speculation that the 65 year old may have been set to end his reign.

Nina Tassler, the president of CBS Entertainment, said: “David Letterman is a late night legend with an iconic show and Craig Ferguson continues to evolve the genre in exciting and innovative ways.”

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, will now be co-produced by (Letterman‘s) Worldwide Pants and CBS, with Ferguson due to get a studio upgrade. Ferguson will move his 12:35 a.m. show to a larger stage at CBS’ Television City.

Meanwhile, Ferguson has just returned from Scotland where he taped shows that are expected to be broadcast in the US in May.

Letterman airs in Australia on TEN and Ferguson on ELEVEN.

  1. One problem I have is, I hate that foxtel doesn’t update the program guide with who’s on either of these shows.

Often I only watch these days based who’s on, because there just isn’t enough time for everything. I definitely watch Craig the most often, he’s always funny. Can’t wait for his scotland week!

I barely watch Conan these days, but I still find his show very funny.

  2. Funny how most of the comments here are referring to Craig Ferguson….Dave might have been on-air for 30+ years, but Craig has a much more watchable and entertaining show.
And if anyone from Ten/Eleven reads these comments, let me also add my voice to the move to return the Late Late Show back to a 10.30pm start. That half an hour makes all the difference!! Who needs to see Frasier repeats again?

  3. I never found Craig Ferguson or any of these late night talk show hosts funny, or entertaining at all

I’d rather watch Jon Stewart or The Colbert Report, shame ABC2 doesn’t have the rights anymore…

  4. I only bother with Letterman these days if there is a guest I’m particularly interested in. I love Craig Ferguson once we get past the first part of the actual monologue, but starting it after 11pm is a bit of an ask. The show was good before but having Geoff Peterson ad libbed by Josh Thompson makes it great. I’m glad Ferguson is getting more recognition and an upgrade but hope the larger studio doesn’t wreck the ambience he’s worked hard to create and maintain.

  5. Ferguson is just imo the king of late nights. Letterman is just so creepy while the others try to be funny while Craig just is. His relationship with Geoff is just hilarious.

  6. I’m still watch Ferguson but only on the PVR the next day.

Yes TEN move it back to 10:30!!!

or Like I’ve been saying for over a year, show it also on TEN after Letterman as CBS intended it! Then those who want to can record both without a chance of clashing!

  7. I think Craig Ferguson is just frustrated with the limitations. He’s trying to subtly deconstruct the genre of the Chat Show, in ways he’s familiar with from British TV. Not being able to swear, or say or do certain things, even though he’s on late at night amongst crappy advertising, is ridiculous in his eyes, and he rails against it. And I support his quest.

  8. Interesting for Craig. I haven’t watched it since ELEVEN moved it to later time but when I did he never seemed happy with the show. Maybe getting out of the CBS basement will change this hehe!
