2.2m for The Voice live show spectacle

Ratings: The Voice stumped up with 2.2m viewers for a very impressive Live show, giving Nine an easy win on Monday.

With their first Live performance of The Voice, Monday was always going to go Nine’s way and it did very convincingly.

The Voice stumped up with 2.2m viewers, not as high as earlier Blind Auditions (2.8m), but the show itself was handsomely produced and the girls had the edge over the boys last night. The staging and the arena, with the added V-Room, all fit together very neatly and the live audience was certainly in the mood. The show also worked perfectly well without the audio sweetening of cheering masses that had punctuated pre-recorded episodes.

Nine finished the night on a solid 38.7% to Seven’s 23.3% and TEN’s 17.7%.

The Voice ended at 9:42pm which meant Tricky Business premiered 12 minutes late. Its 1.16m preliminary average is expected to be adjusted to 987,000 and will later rise again with Consolidated figures. It’s a decent opening for a 9:30pm show but the real key will be seeing next week’s figures. Elsewhere for Nine, Nine News was 1.36m (nudging Seven News nationally), The Block was 1.27m and A Current Affair was 1.17m, just 2,000 behind Today Tonight and Hot Seat was 767,000.

Seven News was 1.38m for Seven then Today Tonight 1.19m, Home and Away (705,000 in three cities),  Deal or No Deal (675,000), Monday night AFL (519,000 in three cities). The Price is Right was 386,000.

Given the competition from The Voice and The Block, TEN should be very happy thankyou with the 1.04m for MasterChef. TEN News was 750,000, Bondi Vet was 588,000, NCIS was 526,000, The Project 6pm was 471,000 and NCIS: LA was 469,000.

ABC News led ABC1 with 1.07m, then Australian Story (691,000), Four Corners (632,000), Q & A (620,000), 7:30 (613,000) and Media Watch (574,000).

Mythbusters was 225,000 on SBS ONE with World News Australia on 161,000 and Letters and Numbers on 149,000.

Neighbours led multichannels with 329,000.

Sunrise: 382,000
Today: 345,000
ABC News Breakfast: 33,000 / 17,000
Breakfast: 22,000

  1. Yep I think we have discovered why these people haven’t become successful singers! They were terrible and the judges must all be tone deaf, cause none of the performers were great and most wouldn’t get an applause from a karaoke comp.

  2. From the comments here looks like it’s a similar story for The Voice Australia as it is worldwide when it gets to the live shows.

The Voice UK was getting 11m viewers when the live shows began and nudged past Britain’s Got Talent in the ratings. Three weeks in and it got 5.6m viewers this week – less than half the number watching BGT.

  3. Have been surprised by this show thus far… But last nights episode was simply awful. Lacked drama, polish and after hearing the judges comments… It really lacked believability. Also why go live? Adds pressure on the production and made the show look second rate.

  4. Didn’t anyone notice how ridiculous the kid who sang the One D song looked? All pink, pants were too small and that silly bow tie? He looked absolutely hilarious I was surprised nobody was laughing or saying anything on Twitter…

Was a very boring show actually, and the relentless plugs by Channel 9 on Today and ACA are enough to make me so sick of the damn thing

  5. ohdenny… I thought that the quality of sound was not good making a lot sound as you stated or similiar. Only Glenn sounded reasonable to me or maybe that was because he was the only professional style singer. Others here thought the same that the sound quality was not good. I am sure the judges are hearing something we do not.

  6. Breakfast is just sad now, the comments Paul Henry made about the cleanliness of refugees as aired on Media Watch last night were disgusting. It’s a sad show with arrogant Henry and Rochford. I feel sorry for the other host and even though I like Magdalene Roze, the weather segment is too long and reptitive.

  7. Was Joel drunk or on something last night? His comments seemed a lot weirder than normal. 2.2m is great for The Voice but i see it dropping next week after all the negative comments. Masterchef is a real bore this year. I am not excited by it. I prefer MKR now. I was hoping and praying for change like they said but so far i don’t see much difference. The judges are still being themselves and not much has changed.

Bad night for Seven if you ask me. They should have run something more decent in the non-afl States than National Treasure 2. Yes its a good movie but its a movie. Tonight i am looking forward to Once Upon a Time. Its an awesome series and i really hope the Aussie viewers like it as much as Americans do.

  8. I don’t get the Chris Sebastian love either. Amongst all the extraneous notes and the vibrato, it’s hard to find the melody of the song. Hold a friggin’ note, Chris!

I watched the performances online and the person who impressed me most was Veronika. Sadly though, her video has fewer views than most of the other people, so, sadly, I don’t hold hopes for her progressing further. I won’t be making this show top of my priority viewing list anymore.

  9. Well Mum loves The Voice and I happened see a bit walking past. The Sebastian brother was terrible… and the judges fawned all over him. Are we missing something!!..???

And then the Video Hits girl exclaiming that his performance was exploding the twitter-verse? No one cares about Twitter! Twitter means nothing.

Geez I’m fired up for a Tuesday arvo.. next

  10. Agree with many of the comments here. It was a bit underwhelming considering it was the first live show. Some voices weren’t up to it. Most of the girls definitely were better on the night, lets hope the people get in on their performance and not who is hot or has amazing eyes. I didn’t particularly like the V-room didn’t see the point in it and also didn’t like the judges banter with each other after the singer had finished. For the first 2 acts I thought the camera people had stuffed up and kept the camera on the mentors instead of going to an add break. Only realised later that this was part of the show. I wonder who is getting the money from the itunes downloads, apparently downloads now count towards the voting as well.

  11. I thought The Voice was great last night. My only issue was the overly positive comments – I get that they are trying to stay nice, but at the same time, be constructive. In singing comps, you are always going to get some who do a bad job, it comes with the territory – I don’t the show can be blamed for that. I do understand other people’s disappointment though – I think next week will be better with Teams Joel and Keith in the game – I think they seem to have clearer/superior ideas about song choice.

  12. maybe there is a reason these people haven’t ‘made it’ as singers….I thought they were terrible and the judges need a kick up the bottom for telling they are great when they aren’t . Wonder if channel 10 even care about ratings on a Monday anymore..it would seem they don’t.

  13. Yeah, didn’t enjoy The Voice at all last night, everyone apart from Fatie, Karisse and Racheal were awful and I’m sick of all the fake nice comments by the judges, when some singers weren’t very good. Battle rounds were much better. If it stays like this next week, i won’t be watching anymore. Compared to shows like XFactor and American Idol, tonight was just embarassing for everyone concerned.

  14. While the visual production elements were pretty good the Audio was shocking, having a little to do with mixing years ago, I think whoever responsible needs to listen to the finished product .
Many of the vocals were either drowned out by backups or music, this may have been intentional to cover flaws, was it live live or live to tape?(Of course I said I would not watch anymore last week but like a firefly was drawn back in).

  15. Last nights The Voice was terrible, especially the boys. Off key and out of tune but the judges give them overwhelmingly positive comments.

  16. well said doreen. After promising so much, this season has delivered nothing. To have the singers stand there like stunned mullets on such a huge stage, with such poor song choices – it felt like a step backwards to Idol days, rather than the impressive staging and modern feeling of X Factor. It seemed a waste to have such a huge audience but there were pretty much no shots of them. As for the singing – some of those notes were terrible!

  17. So the voice as live last night ??? Why did one of the contestants wish their mother a happy mothers day ????? By the way the Sabistian person was terrible, off key and out of tune, and the judges said he was great !!! Are they deaf or something.

  18. love reading your opinions david but i totally disagree, i though The Voice was disapointing last night. it was very dull, the talent was ordinary, judges were boring and have little chemistry, they gave the same comments to everyone, the show had bad flow and there was no atmosphere in the room.

  19. I watched Tricky Business last night (didn’t bother with The Voice) and it was okay – I expected more airtime for Shane Bourne and the other actors but 90% of the show was all about that blonde woman and her boring subplot about her fiance.

IMO better than most Channel Nine productions (Canal Road, The Strip? anyone remember that shite?) but will probably drop in ratings to around 700k. They should move it to 8:30 Wednesdays to give it a better timeslot instead of Mentalist repeats, rather than 10pm on Mondays.

  20. I thought last night’s episode of the Voice was the weakest so far. The sound was terrible, the song choices questionable and I thought the judges offered no constructive feedback. There were some obviously weak performances however all comments were glowing. Disappointing.

  21. Is that a mistake for ACA & TT’s ratings last night…Find it hard to believe TT was almost at 2mil!

    Think it should be:
    TT: 1.19mil
    ACA: 1.17mil
