Airdate: Louie

Meet stand-up comedian Louis C.K., as a hapless single dad in New York in this alternative sitcom.

Just enough time to give you the heads up for this offbeat US comedy starring stand-up comedian Louis C.K. as a hapless single dad in New York.

These episodes are about 3 years old, but think angry Seinfeld, think Flight of the Conchords alternative humour and this might be one for you.

Louie is the new 13-part comedy series featuring Emmy® and Grammy® Award-winning Mexican-American comedian, Louis C.K.

Filtered through Louis C.K.’s observational humour, the show is loosely based around his experiences as a successful stand-up comedian, and a newly single father raising two daughters in New York City.

Celebrity guests during Series 1 include Ricky Gervais (The Office), Matthew Broderick (Margaret, Tower Heist), Tom Noonan (Synecdoche, New York), and Stephen Root (News Radio).

Dark and cynical in tone, and often downright dirty, the series confronts the challenges of Louis’ life as he navigates his way around love, sex, relationships, work and parenting.

Co-produced, written, directed and edited by Louis C.K., the series is shot on a single camera, and consists of unique scripted shorts interspersed with his stand-up comedy.

Winning the 2011 Grammy® Award for Best Comedy Album, Louis C.K. has a wealth of joke-writing experience behind him via The Lateshow with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, along with his Emmy® Award winning work on The Chris Rock Show.

10pm tonight on ABC2.

  1. Well, I thought it was pretty good.

Re starving children: in his defence I don’t think that he was using them as either the target or subject of his humour. He was saying that even though he knows that he could drive a less-expensive car and use the freed up equity to help people in need, he doesn’t. He was basically saying that we all could do something but usually choose not to.

If it made you feel uncomfortable you could perhaps assuage that discomfort by helping out in some small way.

  2. Thanks for pointing this one out Dave, being a huge Seinfeld fan (and Larry David fan) I thought this would be my cup of tea… but failed to hit the mark with me really…

I didn’t really like his stand up material, especially the jokes about newborn babies starving to death, I get the shock value… Just don’t find that stuff funny?

  3. Watched season 2 last year on comedy channel on Foxtel. Interestingly, this was one show that they moved from a 10 pm timeslot to a morning only timeslot!

    The masturbation episode was hilarious.

Will now watch season 1 although it might not hit it’s straps for a couple of eps it is still very good.
