Grant Bowler has been cast as Richard Burton opposite Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor in a new biopic Liz & Dick for Lifetime in the US.

The Hollywood Reporter notes the project will chronicle one of Hollywood’s most famous romances. The couple were each married at the time of their meeting on the set of Cleopatra, left their respective spouses and married twice.

“We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” Lifetime executive vice-president of programming Rob Sharenow said last month when Lohan’s casting was officially announced. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”

I’m not really seeing the Burton resemblance in (the very talented) Bowler just yet, so I’ll be curious to see how this one goes over.

It begins production in June.

  1. @ Bella … I totally agree.

I’m baffled at this casting on both roles.
Neither of them could do justice to Elizabeth or Richard.

Sorry Grant, I do like you but this is just wrong!
And I have no words to describe how wrong Lindsay Lohan is for this either.

    I’m gobsmacked!!! 😉

  2. @d³ – I was thinking the same thing.
“… rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue …” – I don’t think that there is a single word that’s true in that quote apart from ‘who’, ‘the’, and ‘and’.

  3. This sounds like it is going to be a mess. Neither of the leads look like the characters they are playing at all. Perhaps it is a good career move for Bowler though, as the production is going to get a lot of attention.
