Underbelly actress Anna McGahan has been awarded the 2012 Heath Ledger Scholarship by LA-based industry body Australians In Film.

Underbelly actress Anna McGahan has been awarded the 2012 Heath Ledger Scholarship by LA-based industry body Australians In Film.
In Los Angeles McGahan said, “I am honoured to receive the Heath Ledger Scholarship – I hope to do his legacy and the Australian industry proud.”
The scholarship fund enables actors in the early stage of their careers to travel to the US to further their training and international acting opportunities.
Past recipients include Oliver Ackland, Bella Heathcote and Ryan Corr.
McGahan will appear next in Nine’s House Husbands and ABC’s Mystery of a Hansom Cab.
One of Australia’s most promising young actors, Anna is a graduate of QUT with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting). Immediately after finishing school, Anna secured a guest lead in the Nine Network’s TV series Rescue Special Ops and the role of Portia in Queensland La Boite’s Theatre Company’s production of Julius Caesar in 2011. In the same year, she filmed a recurring guest role in the Southern Star/Foxtel series Spirited (Series 2).
Lauded for her extraordinary performance as Nellie Cameron in Screentime’s Underbelly: Razor, Anna won the 2011 the ‘Out of the Box’ IF Award and was shortlisted for the Queensland Premiere’s Drama Award. She has since completed a guest roles in ABC TV’s Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Mystery of a Hansom Cab. Later this year she will be seen in a leading role in the feature 100 Bloody Acres as well as a series regular in Channel 9’s new series House Husbands, which she is currently shooting.
A keen playwright, Anna was the recipient of Queensland Theatre Company’s Young Playwright’s Award in both 2009 and 2010, and her play He’s Seeing Other People Now will premiere in July in Brisbane. Later this year she will take to the stage in the World Premiere tour of Black Swan Theatre Company/Queensland Theatre Company’s production of Managing Carmen.
