Best on The Block but Seven wins Sunday

The Block, Nine News and 60 Minutes all win -but it was Seven that ended up winning Sunday night.

Nine may have ruled from 6pm to 8:30pm last night but that still wasn’t enough to win Sunday.

Instead Seven fell over the line in both primary and network shares, with a combined figure of 31.5% to Nine’s 30.8%, TEN’s 21.2%, ABC’s disappointing 12.2% and SBS on 4.3%.

Downton Abbey was best for Seven with 1.47m, then Seven News (1.43), Billy Connolly’s Route 66 (1.23m), Sunday Night (1.2m) and Castle (618,000).

The Block topped the night with 1.91m -its best figure all year. Nine News (1.56m) and 60 Minutes (1.54m) both won their slot but viewers fell away at 8:30pm with The Mentalist (910,000) and Unforgettable (523,000), ultimately costing them the night.

MasterChef Australia was very strong with 1.37m viewers for TEN but was its only sweet spot. TEN News was 597,000, New Girl (581,000), Last Man Standing (481,000), Touch (465,000), The Project (429,000) and FIA Formula One (329,000 on three channels) all underwhelmed.

ABC1 was largely uneventful with ABC News at 827,000, Sporting Nation (689,000), Wallander (531,000) and Compass on 284,000.

On SBS ONE Inside Nature’s Giants was 204,000, Clash of the Dinosaurs (191,000) and World News Australia (187,000).

The Big Bang Theory topped multichannels with 290,000.

  1. @ kimbeth…I think the F1 numbers are more to do with the quality of the viewing for the main event….rather than who is actually winning…although that does carry some weight.

  2. It’s a pity Sporting Nation was programmed here – did not do very well in a tough slot. Where is the new Australian drama? Deepest darkest Winter and no new Australian drama and woeful Aussie comedy on the ABC. Fail.

  3. F1 (and MotoGP) on TEN is not working, the sooner it’s put back on ONE the better, then show some decent movies or drama on Sunday night to help boost the ratings for the network.

  4. Crazy how ch9 can score such massive ratings from 6-8.30pm and yet lose the night.

On a side note I am pleased to see ch10 are giving more time to live sport. The f1 rated ok given the time slot. If Mark Webber continues to perform well I think you can expect these numbers to improve drastically.

  5. Really enjoyed ‘Sporting Nation’ last night – some great interviews (even scoring the late Murray Rose – RIP) and Clarke’s droll humour (“the Rome Olympics, held in Rome …”) made for a great program.
