Don’t mention the war (or the Grant Hackett interview?)

On the 60 Minutes official website you won't find a video, nor a transcript, of their interview with Grant Hackett.

It’s almost as if Nine’s interview with Grant Hackett never existed….

On the 60 Minutes official website you won’t find a video, nor a transcript, nor any sign of their lead story from Sunday night.

That’s despite videos and transcripts on the other two stories on Black Caviar and Catherine Fisher being available.

In fact every other story from 60 Minutes from June is also available there -just not the Hackett interview, despite the episode rating 1.54m viewers.

Reaction to Tara Brown’s interview with the former Olympic swimmer was mixed, with plenty of comment that it did little to repair his tarnished image, following a domestic incident in his Melbourne apartment last year.

On radio this week, many noted Hackett neglected to use the “sorry” word. Some suggested it was more about damage control for the Nine presenter timed ahead of his inclusion in Olympics coverage.

The Age even speculates today, ‘The network is ”unable to comment” but one theory is that Nine and team Hackett weren’t happy with how he came across, all wishy-washy, so they ordered the story to go straight to the vault. Or maybe Alley and her protective father, Emilio Giannarelli, had a say in its removal.’

Perhaps there are new legal reasons why the clip does not appear.

The Australian today suggests quotes a former senior policeman who said force policy dictated that Hackett should have been arrested as soon as an allegation of assault was made.

On 60 Minutes Hackett denied he assaulted Alley, saying there had been only a heated verbal exchange between them.

Victoria Police yesterday confirmed their investigation into Hackett’s conduct was still under way and would not rule out laying charges.

Nine tells TV Tonight the video was never added to the website.

And probably never will be….?

  1. Do all their stories usually have a transcript/video put up? I’ve been waiting weeks for the “Impossible Choice” story from May 18 to be added to the website but it doesn’t seem to have anything for that yet, either.

    sixtyminutes.ninemsn.com.au/stories/8469618/the-impossible-choice

It’s hard to figure out why they put up some stories but not all.

  2. If you go to youtube you will find 7 have put lots of the interview up. Seven News, Today tonight, The Morning Show and Sunrise have all put up the stories they did on the 60 Minute interview. Very cheeky but if you watch them all you get a fair bit of the interview. If they get taken off youtube, go to their websites. By 9 taking this off or not putting it up on their sites just shows how stupid they are. I’m not going to, but i did record it and i could easy put it up myself.

  3. @idiotbox I applaud you!

I’m so sick of these celebrities who are ready to sell their happy stories and photos to Woman’s Day and alike, but want their privacy when things go awry. Sorry, but you can’t have it both ways.

  4. Tried finding this interview on youtube and couldn’t find it there either.
Tried Nine’s limited catch up and couldn’t find it there either.
Seems like they are trying to sweep it under the carpet and hope we all forget.
Seems 9 is treating us all like morons (as they always seem to do) and hope we forget he trashed his apartment.
Sure, everyone is human and makes mistakes, but that rule is for the nuffies like us in the burbs who don’t have public profiles.
Those who seek pulbic profiles live by another rule where their lives are public and if they stuff up then it’s fair game for the rest of us to judge since that is the attention they have sought.
It’s a two way street. If you don’t want public attention, live a life quietly in the burbs. If you want the trappings of celebrity, expect us to judge you on the good and the bad of your life.

  5. I flipped over to see 5 minutes of “interview”
None of the hard questions appeared to be asked and Hackett just looked smug.
If I recall correctly, I did mention that he should be forgiven as he has only made One small mistake.

  6. It would be in nine’s best interest to remove this from their payroll.

I’m looking forward to the foxtel coverage of the olympics so hopefully can’t hackett will not appear.

  7. What is not in dispute is Grant Hackett trashed his apartment while his children were present. Never acceptable no matter what the provocation. How can Nine continue to support him as a presenter? Because that’s what Nine does. They still don’t get why it’s not okay to support these guys and that makes them out of step with the wider community.

  8. David, I think you will find that these aren’t ‘new legal reasons’. Because of the current legal proceedings Nine would have never been allowed to broadcast this story online.

Perhaps if anyone from The Age had bothered to pick up the phone and ring any lawyer involved in this case they would have been told this.
