ABC Online hosts an interview with actor Craig McLachlan, currently filming the lead role of Dr Lucien Blake in the ABC’s upcoming Dr. Blake Mysteries.
Blake returns to Ballarat to take over his father’s medical practice after his death.
“Born in Victoria but he studied to be doctor in London and Edinburgh before joining the British Army and never imagined he’d return to Ballarat,” he explains.
Exteriors for some of the opening scenes of episode one were filmed this week on Lydiard St North outside the Regent Theatre.
ABC notes the shoot was an opportunity for locals to see the streetscape return to the late 1950’s with vintage vehicles, shops dressed as they used to be and extras wearing clothes from the rock and roll era.
Interior scenes are also being filmed in Port Melbourne.
The series also stars Nadine Garner.

I’d love to be an extra in this. It’d be a bit the next best thing to a time machine.
Hmmm, so Ballarat will become the murder capital of Australia in the 1950’s?
I hope they put it on Fridays like Phryne Fisher..
Looking forward to seeing this. It has attracted a lot of big names as guests, as has Miss Fisher and Jack Irish.
