Jason Gann to pay $325,000 for assault case

Wilfred star Jason Gann has been ordered to pay $325,000 plus court costs to a bus driver following an assault in 2007.

Victorian County Court documents show Gann abused shuttle bus driver Joseph Hosny and punched him repeatedly in the head after being denied a place on a crowded bus during Spring Carnival. Passengers pushed Gann from the bus, but he returned, tried to rip Hosny from the driver’s seat and punched him again. After he got off he then tried to open the driver’s door and punched the window until the bus drove away.

Mr Hosny, 50, had told the court he feared for his life during the attack and has since suffered flashbacks, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. He was unable to work, had split from wife and was living in cheap accommodation after having to sell his home.

Gann pleaded guilty in 2008 to unlawfully assaulting Hosny, but no conviction was recorded so he could continue his US acting career.

WorkCover was also seeking compensation from Gann for the $113,000 it had already paid Mr Hosny but the matter was settled privately.
