Grant Hackett’s estranged wife Candice Alley tried to stop 60 Minutes from airing its interview with Grant Hackett, according to media reports.
Lawyers for Ms. Alley are understood to have viewed the interview on Thursday, news.com.au notes.
The interview airs tonight as part of an attempt to rebuild the tarnished reputation of Hackett, ahead of his media commitments at the London Olympics.
A friend of Hackett’s defended him amid ongoing speculation.
“There’s more to it that will come out. He hasn’t had a chance to have his say yet. After he does he’ll have a lot more support,” the friend said.
“There will be no comment from 60 Minutes,” a Nine spokeswoman said yesterday.

Poor Grant. What a big wimp. Listening to this giant clearly remembering everything even though he was blind drunk. His legal advisers have certainly tried on a new one here. Pure abuse upon his wife and nothing short of it grant(small g intended.) Yet you couldn’t even be man enough to say sorry to your wife. Pathetic individual. we have to take it for “Grant-ed” what happened. He remebered everything while pissed. You just can’t “Hackett” and your parents came across as my poor, poor boy types as well. wake up mate and get a backbone. Abuse of women is not on.

I didn’t get the impression from the interview or the parents that anyone was ‘blaming’ Candice. He said the marriage had gotten bad and he knew it was over and was upset at that. Not her. I believed his tears.. he was talking about is kids. A soft point for most parents.
Plus he was very drunk. Not an excuse… but it can’t be discounted. As for his parents, well the Dad called him a dickhead… are they expected to disown him in a time of obvious need? I have a feeling all that was said by Grant is just the tip of iceberg
What a pathetic response from his parents ” We weren’t shamed we were surprised ” ! From his mother – “We just thought he must have been so upset to get to that point”. What a disgrace – Poor son he ruined an apartment in a drunken rage – but hey he was upset. What a way to blame Candice Alley in a round about way. I am glad Tara Brown’s face reflected the disgust that I felt watching the crocodile tears and shallow apology. I don’t have anything against Grant Hackett but come on mate man up. What wonderful parents that give poor 6ft brute of a son a reassuring pat on the back for being upset with his wife.
I was ambivalent about Grant Hackett before watching this – now I have no respect for him as a person and I am inclined to think his parents have contributed to the making of a man who is clueless about how to behave towards his wife and children.
