Rebel Wilson project moves from NBC to ABC (US)

Rebel Wilson’s US comedy pilot has been thrown a lifeline by switching networks.

Rebel Wilson’s CBS comedy pilot Super Fun Night has been thrown a lifeline after being turned down from NBC by getting some love from the ABC network.

Deadline reports ABC is close to a deal to re-pilot the project, written by and starring Wilson and executive produced by Conan O’Brien.

The comedy follows three nerdy female friends on their “funcomfortable” quest to have “super fun” every Friday night.

Originally written as multi-camera comedy for CBS, it is now expected to be reworked as single-camera, the predominant comedy format at ABC.

The original pilot starred Jenny Slate and Edi Patterson as the other leads opposite Wilson but it’s not clear if other cast members will join the ABC one.

Deadline notes “Super Fun Night was one of the talked-about pilots after the upfronts, with several networks looking at it. There is an unusually high level of activity for passed-over broadcast pilots this season.”

Wilson’s first self-devised sitcom, Bogan Pride, came to life on SBS, which is also where Wilfred had its series outing.
