Stars to bring Australian history to life

Alex Dimitriades, Claudia Karvan, Asher Keddie, Magda Szubanski, Jack Thompson, & David Wenham join The People Speak.

Foxtel has announced an impressive line-up of actors and musicians for its upcoming History Channel documentary, The People Speak.

Based on the format developed by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, it features performers reciting letters, songs and speeches from Australian historic figures including rebels, visionaries and protesters.

Set to participate are Alex Dimitriades, Chris Haywood, John Jarratt, Claudia Karvan, Asher Keddie, Peter O’Brien, Leah Purcell, Magda Szubanski, Jack Thompson, David Wenham and Dan Wylie. Musical performances include Tex Perkins, Julia Stone and Christine Anu.

On Monday July 9th they will appear before a live audience at Carriageworks in Redfern, bringing to life historic words about gender equality, fair pay and working conditions, gay rights, war and peace, immigration and indigenous populations.

In the US series the event included Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman, Marisa Tomei, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Josh Brolin and In a UK edition it attracted Colin Firth, Sir Ben Kingsley, Joss Stone, Keira Knightley and Sir Ian McKellan.

Produced by WTFN Entertainment it will air on The History Channel in October.
