Weeds to end with next season

About time too? Just 13 more episodes for Nancy Botwin and co.

I hate to say it, but it’s about time….

Showtime has confirmed that Weeds will end its run after its upcoming eighth season.

Weeds has been a seminal series for Showtime and was key in establishing the network as a home for great original programming,” said Showtime’s entertainment president David Nevins. “It was very important to us that we bring the story of Nancy Botwin and her family to a satisfying conclusion for the devoted fans who have spent years following these characters.”

It was a wonderfully bold show in its early seasons, but frankly I’m surprised it wasn’t axed earlier than this.

The final 13 episodes of Weeds will begin airing in the US in July 1, including its 100th episode.

But there’s some good news with more from creator Jenji Kohan on the way with a new series in the works for Netflix, Orange Is The New Black.

  1. This was a great show. Along with Breaking Bad it has used a usually taboo subject (in polite sociality) to carve out original and unique storylines. Was there ever any other funnier character than Celia Hodes? Farewell Nancy!

  2. I think the shows seen better days. I still enjoy it though. I just like checking in with the Botwins every year. Seeing what’s up.

Hopefully there’s a good ending. Probably time though.

  3. I enjoyed Weeds for the first few seasons but gave up when Nine kept stuffing it about. Have caught bits and pieces since but it seemed to have lost its spark.

Also, given that the lead is female, Nevins should prob refer to the show as a ‘germinal’ series rather than ‘seminal’.

  4. It seems like only yesterday Nine began airing it…and pretty much immediately started messing it around their schedule

    ahh some things never change
