Whitlam stories wanted

ABC is looking for stories and memorabilia on Gough Whitlam for a new two-part documentary.

ABC is looking for stories and memorabilia on Gough Whitlam for a new two-part documentary, simply titled Whitlam.

Whitlam will be produced by Bombora Film and Music Co (Bombora: The Story Of Australian Surfing, Wide Open Road: The Story of Cars in Australia).

Director Paul Clarke said “We want to build a mosaic of first person stories and speak to people with personal connections with Whitlam, in the style of the other films we’ve made.

“We know there will be lots of emotive stories – Whitlam the politician and his government polarised Australia. We want to hear how people saw Whitlam, met him, and connected with him – and where they were when he was dismissed. Whitlam was a towering figure on the Australian political scene for several decades and remains a controversial figure even now. We would love to get your stories – so it’s as much a story about Australia changing, as it is about Whitlam.”

Researchers are seeking personal stories, photos and super 8 or video footage about Gough Whitlam, one of Australia’s most controversial Prime Ministers.

If you or your family had an audience with the man himself, whether he was a regular topic of conversation in your family, or whether you have a photo or video footage of him – we would love to hear from you. Perhaps you were personally affected by one of his policies, laws or reforms – tell us about it!

Can you help us with your stories or photos? It’s time to come forward!
