Nine is currently calling for applications for a new prime-time series, The Great Australian Bake Off.
Based on The Great British Bake Off, Nine is looking for amateur bakers to be put to a series of tasks where one will be declared Australia’s best amateur baker.
In the British version, home bakers undertook challenges in various locations across the UK, tracing very particular landmarks in the history of British baking. It has been running for 2 seasons, plus a junior series and a series with sports stars. It won a BAFTA Award in May.
The local series will go into production in Melbourne from September.
The closing date for applications is 5pm, Friday 24th August 2012 (AEST)

We really need this?
I like baking so it sounds interesting enough. Filming in Melbourne means at least I’ll be curious enough to watch the first episode.
