  1. I was happy watching Mythbusters, Four Corners, Media Watch, Q&A, some of Lateline plus the repeat and Fringe. I hope the latter did alright in the ratings but fear to ask. It was an excellent episode. I recommend it tonight as well at 11pm. I’ve heard from people that watched it that it’s classic Fringe at its best. Although I really fear for the ratings on Tuesday. I wouldn’t mind if they don’t repeat the experiment again.

  2. By the end of the ratings year we are likley to see Bingle and the shire dropped – never to be seen again – just a long line of rubbish that ten continue to produce- this is alongside ytt – gone the priscilla program – likely to bomb – is it any wonder why ten’s share price is so low ? ……..

Ten needs a broom to it’s format and it’s management – until then we are likely to see more drivel unless there is a huge change at ten ……..

  3. @Niccky123,I agree with you in regards to the violence and malice aimed at the people in the show. There is no need for nastiness or extreme rudeness towards them.

  4. While I never was the target for the Shire, it was the early promos that ensured I didn’t watch with the guy on the surfboard combing his hair at the same time. Later promos just sealed the deal. I look forward to its “special new time” when it moves to eleven.

  5. I personally loved it! Well produced, good stories, great cast.

For me the sad thing is how some Australian’s used violence and malice towards these people. That’s a far more disturbing picture than boxtox ever is.

And FYI the Shire has been adjusted to 941K

  6. I’m part of the OzTam surveys at the moment and I made a pledge that I’d use my power for good and not evil. Consequently the TV stayed on ABC and SBS last night!

  7. I thought The Shire would have done better, mainly for the curiosity factor, but having watched most of it,the only way is down from here. Also what a difference a change of timeslot has made for The Amazing Race Australia.

  8. listening to radio this morning all those who live in the shire are very embarrassed by the show as are those that I know who live in the shire….the ads were enough to turn me off.

  9. The Shire delivered for ch10, huge in Sydney, big in the demos and finally ten are getting ahead of ABC on a Monday. I like shows with airhead, vacuous, shallow babes it beats the block any day for me

  10. Australian Story last night was TV at its best. I have not watched this show much in the last few years but have seen the last 4 eposides. Best Australian made show on TV.

  11. There is hope for the human race after all! Hopefully it will keep dropping to oblivion

I like many tuned in just to see what the hype was about. I found it boring and turned back to The Amazing Race after 10 minutes. The dialogue was awkward and stilted. It would have been more “real” if they’d given them an actual script, or made it more documentary-style and made no pretense of filming it and asking questions.

As it is I found none of the “stars” compelling enough to tune in next week. The two plastic surgery junkies were amusing for about a minute, but they’re a one-trick pony. Everything else was a blur of stilted, set-up, awkward fakeness.

I fit all key demos as do most of my friends, and all but one that watched last night has said they won’t be watching next week, so expect a big drop not only in overall ratings but in demos too.

    1. The Whole Truth was 14,000.
Timbo: Shire ratings are as per OzTAM: 913,000. Yes it did well in demos.
Ducko: Project numbers are not plummeting. It’s been averaging around these for most of the year. Needs to do better.

  12. I’m not so surprised at the Shire’s numbers. It doesn’t matter how much publicity there has been there is a fair chunk of the viewing public who just aren’t into scripted reality shows like this. I was never going to watch for that reason – has nothing to with publicity or quality of the show, I just don’t get into that genre of tv.

  13. Wow, very disappointing, I thought it would have cleared the million with ease.
What were the ratings after the last break? They’re the ones who might come back next week. I’m guessing 800,000.

  14. All promos for The Shire have looked dire so I’m avoiding like the plague. Masterchef and The Amazing Race Australia continue to be absolutely excellent.

  15. Looks like the extra publicity/controversy wasn’t enough to boost ratings.

Thankfully Australians aren’t ready for the trash that’s on the US and UK networks…

Can’t wait to see next weeks ratings!

  16. The Shire will surely drop next week. Nine may as well perservere with The Voice US as they have the olympics after next week and the voice at three times epr week will probably finish next week anyway.

There is no way The Voice Aust will get the figures it enjoyed this year when it next returns. For me, Australia’s’s Got Talent is far better in that it has variety – not just singing.

The Finder’s numbers are terminal – should be gone soon.
