Australia’s Got Talent fave favourited by Better Homes & Gardens

Does the inclusion of an AGT semi-finalist in Better Homes & Gardens give someone a network advantage for audience votes?

Is it just me or does the inclusion of an AGT semi-finalist in Better Homes & Gardens give them a distinct network advantage for audience votes?

This week Andrew de Silva shows Johanna Griggs around his garden.

His next performance is on AGT next week so strictly speaking voting lines aren’t open. Seven tells TV Tonight it tries to keep things fair by not doing anything with anyone while voting lines are open, unless it’s part of a group package.

But surely such a network push gives him a free kick over the other contestants when voting does open? Couldn’t they just run his segment after AGT has ended?

Be interested to hear other people’s thoughts on this one….

Andrew and his partner Elle live with their daughters Yazmin and Jada in a renovated home in bayside Melbourne which features a monochrome colour palette with accents of red and a small home studio which is Andrew’s work space.

On the eve of his AGT Grand Final showdown, Andrew reflects on his incredible journey so far – from his days with 90s chart toppers, CDB, to his personal battles with cancer and a stutter, and his recent show-stopping performances on the AGT stage.

“Now I’m starting to realise why I’m doing this and it’s to share that story about stuttering and the cancer,” he tells Joh.

“This is my second chance and I need to do something more with a second chance. I don’t need to get out there and just become famous. I need to say something now.”

  1. Definitely unfair. Any contestant that gets additional airtime than others has an unfair advantage. That was why The Voice kicked Carmen off their show yet seven doesn’t seem to have a problem with this on their show.

  2. I’m a big fan of AGT, but I agree that this promotion of one act over others is unfair. They were accused of it last year with Jack Vidgen, and we are seeing it here again with Andrew, who is no better than any of the contestants on the Voice imo.

  3. I’m more curious to confirm just when these series are actually taped – last year I noticed the same audience in the final 2 eps of 7’s ESP show (forgotten the name of it) – and someone involved with the new season of X-Factor told a friend that The Voice series finished recording last February.

If that’s the case, a lot of phone votes didn’t make any difference… but gave the TV network a nice pile of loot.

  4. Yep, definitely being given an advantage to look into the personal life, and draw out the family card.
I don’t watch AGT,so never seen this guy before, but I personally would not vote for him specifically because of the the spelling of this daughter’s name ‘Yazmin’ when there is nothing wrong with Yasmin.
