Brynne vs Lara -is there anyone home?

Being Lara Bingle on TEN. My Bedazzled Life coming to Seven. Ob-doc series battle for our attention.

With TEN’s Lara Bingle series having launched well and with plenty of publicity, attention will soon swing to Seven’s fly-on-the-wall series My Bedazzled Life, featuring Brynne Edelsten.

I’m not a big fan of the genre, but of the two I would tip the Edelsten series as likely to be more successful.

This is in part due to the comparisons we could conclude with both appearing on last year’s Dancing with the Stars. Edelsten came across as being a bit naive, but happy to take things with good humour -especially when a few barbs were thrown her way. The audience seemed to respond to the fact she was happy to have a go. Lara Bingle on the other hand seemed to struggle to put in an effort -at least that’s the way it came across on screen.

Yesterday an article in the Sun-Herald suggested Seven have been pleasantly surprised by the footage for Edelsten’s series, and how much “warts and all” it has proven.

“Initially Seven was keen for the series but no one knew how good it was going to be,” a ‘network mole’ (publicist?) said. ”Everyone has been blown away by the initial footage. It has definitely exceeded expectations.

”It’s amazing how much she gives away – it’s full of tears and high emotion, and not just her running around shopping or in contrived situations. She really is an open book.”

While both are following socialites with camera crews there are also subtle difference in their premise. Being Lara Bingle shows us a girl from Sutherland Shire living a high life, often as a fish out of water. My Bedazzled Life could potentially have a bit of Green Acres in it: “darlink I love you but give me Park Avenue” as Eva Gabor once sang…. If it can incorporate a sense of humour it may give it an edge that is lacking in BLB.

Include that footage of her deer-in-headlights hosting on The Morning Show and it could be priceless.

  1. Why are so many people so fascinated by air-headed nobodies on TV? Do people have so little self-regard that they have to laugh at such fools to feel good? Is petty fame so desperately important to them that they’re envious of even those who get a small slice of it by showing the world how pathetic they are?

The likes of Brynne and Lara are anything but “harmless”, they glorify the brainless-woman-lives-well-so-why-bother-trying meme and lower the self-worth of all women (and men) who watch this nonsense.

  2. i’ve always found Brynne fascinating and endearing. dont really know why, 2 things that Lara is definitely not. she has that x factor, perfect for a reality show.

  3. I really don’t know who this Brynne girl is. At all! What is she famous for? Who is she famous for doing? Is she an AFL players wife and hence maybe only popular in AFL states?

  4. Whenever I see photos like this of Brynne, it immediately grabs my attention. I do hope that both shows do not clash in the schedule as it would be nice to compare and contrast.
What I like about blb is Lara’s intellect.

So David, are you saying that Lara is not an heiress to an online car insurance company, y’know a bit like Paris and the Hotel empire?

  5. Looking at that picture I can see Doc’s money has come in rather handy for 2 things.
She seems to have disappeared from the fridge door openings lately, which is a good thing.
