Diana Rigg joins Game of Thrones

Diana Rigg, the original 'Emma Peel' on1960s series The Avengers, is joining Season Three of Game of Thrones.

Diana Rigg, the original ‘Emma Peel’ on1960s series The Avengers, is joining Season Three of Game of Thrones.

73 year old Rigg (pictured) will play Olenna Tyrell, The Queen of Thorns, grandmother of Margaery and Loras Tyrell.

Other casting announcements from Comic Con include:

Mackenzie Crook, best known for the British Office and The Pirates of the Carribean movies, will play wildling raider Orell.
Bryndon “The Blackfish” Tully will be played by Clive Russell. He’s Catelyn Stark’s uncle and estranged from his brother, Lord Hoster Tully.

Child slave Missandei, who works as a translator for Kraznys in Astapor, will be played by Hollyoaks actress Nathalie Emannuel.

Kerry Ingram joins as Stannis Baratheon’s only child, Shireen, and Tara Fitzgerald will play her reclusive mother, Selyse.

Paul Kaye has landed the role of Thoros of Myr, a member of the outlaw band known as the Brotherhood Without Banners.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster will play a friend to Bran Stark, Jojen Reed, and Ellie Kendirck will play his sister Meera, oldest daughter of Stark loyalist Howland Reed.

Richard Dormer will play another member of Brotherhood Without Banners, Beric Dondarrion.

Kristofer Hivju is taking on Tormund Giantsbane, a wildling warrior and chief lieutenant of the “King Beyond the Wall,” Mance Rayder
Philip McGinley (Anguy), Tobias Menzies (Catelyn’s brother Edmure Tully) and Anton Lesser (defunct maester Qyburn) round out the additions.

  1. I’m really looking forward to the next season. Not for Diana Rigg though, I’d prefer to remember her as she once was (as Emma Peel, that picture of her has shattered my illusion). I’m showing my age! Love the series, Game of Thrones.

    You seem to have miss out on hearing on Diana Rigg’s casting along with her daughter Rachael Stirling in an episode of Doctor Who to be shown next year,

    That to me was much bigger news than her casting in Game of Thrones.
