Kylie wins MasterChef Immunity pin

MasterChef handed out its second Immunity pin for 2012 last night, to Kylie for serving up a three-course meal.

MasterChef handed out its second Immunity pin for 2012 last night, to Kylie for serving up a three-course meal.

Assisted by Mindy, Kylie defeated Tomislav Martinovic in a battle to cook dishes that included “Bread” as a compulsory ingredient.

Her three courses included Gazpacho with Rye Bread Icecream, Herb Crusted Blue Eye Trevalla, and Caramel Pannacotta with French Toast.

Two of her dishes, the Entree and Dessert, bettered Martinovic, whose main dish of Scotch Fillet with a Ginger Bread Sauce was also chosen as a winner.

Meanwhile News Limited newspapers today seem to be having some difficulties with getting MasterChef into the headlines.

A Herald Sun headline screamed: “Ratings high for Channel Seven’s TV reality cooking show MasterChef

The Daily Telegraph insisted, “TV viewers warn to MasterChef.”

  1. David, as if often the case, you are spot on.

One contestant, one chef, one new recipe. Perfect test for immunity.

Again, there have been consistency issues with immunity challenges this year. If you are going to have 3v3 or 2v2, then stick with the format for everyone. Remember in Tasmania when Amina had to cook against 1 chef, with one of his own dishes? How is that comparable to Mindy or Kylie choosing an unknown ingredient for both teams, coming up with dishes on the spot and with the extra help of teammates??

    Consistency please!

Fwiw, the girls are smashing it this year. Amina, Audra, Mindy. I just can’t see a guy winning it.

  2. Not surprised Kylie won, and being assisted by Mindy. Judges favourites right there. Wonder why they switched it up to 2man teams this week…

  3. I think Kylie deserved it last night her dishes looks great and aside from the scotch fillet dish I would have chosen Kylies dishes for Entree and Dessert in a restaurant. I would’ve have been disappointed with the fish for main either….
Presentation was fantastic. And unlike Mindy Kylie actually cooked both her winning dishes.

I don’t think you’re biased towards the show David – I think MC has been copping alot of unnecessary flack from the blogosphere this season and unwarranted in my opinion – this seasn is a massive marked improvement on Season 3 IMO. And I love the majority of contestants.

  4. I remain with the belief that Mindy doesn’t deserve the pin she has, having always been the creator of the losing dish in all the Immunity challenges she’s participated in.

  5. David know yo uare very biased to this show but…was it not a little contrived last night for Kylie to win?, a talented chef who looked totally disinterested, 30 mins less, he helps her while she is cooking, his team put up a couple of ordinary dishes.Kylie will go close to win this year she is not the best cook)Amina is) but she has the personality to be a good TV performer, now she is guaranteed top 10, just before two get eliminated to get to Top 10.Why are not the immunity challenges under the same conditions of a working restuarant kitchen, then we can all see how good they all are

    1. Rach: Not sure I am biased towards the show. I have an opinion on it like everybody else. I did think an article suggesting it was failing was absurd in its 4th season and I stand by that. To answer your question, I haven’t suggested it was great that she won Immunity, all I’ve done is report the result. Specifically I don’t think the Immunity challenges are right yet. For my money I would like to see one amateur vs one professional in one recipe that is new to both of them.
