Modern Family cast suing in salary dispute

Modern Family cast members have filed a lawsuit against 20th Century FOX TV in their bid to boost salaries.

The contract stalemate on Modern Family has now turned worse with cast members now filing a lawsuit against 20th Century FOX TV.

The Hollywood Reporter claims Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara have filed suit to void their contracts, suggesting it violates California’s “7 Year Rule,” which prohibits personal services contracts for longer than 7 years. They have asked the contracts to be ruled null and void.

The move stems from their push to lift their salaries from $65,000 per episode.

Sources suggest they are being offered salary increases as follows: $150,000 per episode plus a $50,000 per episode bonus for season 4; $200,000 per episode for season 5; $225,000 for season 6; and up to $325,000 for an anticipated season 9.

The cast is asking for much more, including more than double the offered salary if the show goes 8 or 9 seasons, as expected.

Ed O’Neill, who is paid more than his co-stars is reported to have joined his castmembers out of solidarity , and once he is officially signed as a client by litigators, the suit will be amended to add his name.

A scheduled table read of the first episode of the fourth season did not take place this week.

  1. I can see why they so it.. the networks must be prepared for it I guess they’re all just paying the game. It just looks greedy. I wonder if the big bang cast are goIng to do the same

  2. Well yeah when you head into season 5 territory.. that’s big syndication money for the production company. Keep in mind all the cast on those salaries need to pay tax, agents, managers, publicists ect

It’s not as if 200k is going straight into a savings account each month.

  3. When Warners agreed to pay the cast of Friends (around series 9) @ $1 million per episode – that’s $1 million each – it gave a true indication how much cast members are worth to a successful show.

Now Fox, currently shedding the dinosaur newpaper business worldwide to concentrate on their entertainment division, must know the worth of the MF cast… especially when the series goes into syndication as Friends did…

  4. Wonder how much the writers, you know, the people who actually make the show funny, get paid per episode?

Sure, it’s fair for the actors, as the networks are probably making a lot more money than they should be, but actors don’t make a show, writers do.

  5. And the real losers will be us the viewing public. I just hope this doesn’t end the show prematurely, it’s one of the few shows that can make me laugh out loud.

  6. Yeah. They deserve wayy more than what’s offered for sure. Some of the not so funny actors (I’m looking at you Sheen) are paid much more than that!
