Jennifer Lopez has confirmed she is leaving American Idol, a day after Steven Tyler’s announcement.
Lopez, who has judged for two seasons, broke the news to host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show.
“I honestly feel like the time has come for me to be doing the other things I do that I’ve kind of put on hold because I love Idol so much.”
But she noted she’d be happy to serve Idol in a more limited guest capacity.
The show now looks for at least two new judges and perhaps a third if Randy Jackson, the last remaining original judge, leaves as well.
The latest media speculation for Season 12 judges include 2009 runner-up Adam Lambert, rapper will.i.am, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, and most recently Mariah Carey.

If Big Brother goes well maybe Nine will give Idol another go.
Both Charlie Sheen and Jerry Lewis have also been speculated to be in the running.
Mariah would be fun but only in a Britney-X Factor-Train-Wreck kind of way.
I think Adam would call a spade a spade which has been missing the cast couple of years.
Ah… because people were looking for and wanting her before this…
Bad mistake.
It’s funny how, when there’s any kind of “shake up” with these talent shows judges – Mariah Carey is always speculated by the media as a replacement. She’s shown disinterest so many times, you’d think they’d get the hint by now. 🙂
with christina on The Voice and Britney on The X factor, they are really going to have to find some huge names to replace them to remain relevant.
i have watched most of american idol and x factor, and recently watched the voice on 9. i think Idol is still by far the best of the 3, completely different story to Australia where i think X and TV are lightyears ahead of what idol was.
They should just kil it all together. It’s over.
