60 Minutes: Aug 26

Charles Wooley meets Sir David Attenborough this Sunday for 60 Minutes.

Charles Wooley meets Sir David Attenborough this Sunday for 60 Minutes.

There is also a story on the “Provocation Defence” in which men have seen murder charges reduced to manslaughter and by blaming the woman. There are also many straight men who have gotten off murder charges for killing gay males by claiming they were provoked by an advance. I wonder if women would be afforded the same if they killed every man who ever made a move on them?

License to Kill
It’s monstrously unjust. A husband or boyfriend kills in a fit of rage – then blames his victim to wiggle out of a murder charge. It’s called the Provocation Defence. The man says that his wife or girlfriend drove him to it -that she was a nag or cheat. And that’s all the excuse he needs to get his murder charge reduced to manslaughter and to receive a much lighter sentence. It’s a license to kill. Yet our courts are buying it, letting the meanest and most brutal in our society get away with murder.

The Good Wife
It’s a big call but the lady you’re about to meet is convinced other women hate her just because she’s pretty. Anti-feminist crusader Samantha Brick claims her fabulous good looks have been a curse, that they’ve lost her friends and made her life Hell. But perhaps the problem isn’t her beauty but rather her outspoken views on marriage and relationships. She wants to return to the dark ages where the dutiful wife cooks, cleans and obeys.

A Wild Life
He’s a living legend – as old as the Queen and to me at least – just as impressive. He’s made seventy documentaries, entertaining half a billion people. And he’s observed more species of animal than anyone else on Earth. We are talking of course about the inimitable Sir David Attenborough. Charles Wooley was privileged enough to be granted his only Australian interview during his recent tour of this country. More than a decade
has past since Charles last met Sir David and he’s delighted to say the years have treated Sir David very well, indeed. He only wishes they’d been so kind to the planet.

  1. Hopefully Mr Wooley treats Sir David with a little more respect than Clive James was shown by that other Nine “current affairs” program.

  2. License to Kill: I was immediately reminded of the scold’s bridle. Blaming the other for a transgression and punishing in one form or another. It’s a terrifying issue for anyone (male or female) already experiencing domestic violence.

The Good Wife: Samantha Brick should live the life she advocates. Nothing is stopping her.

A Wild Life: Every time someone asks that question: “Who would you like to have at a dinner party?” I am generally stuck but Sir David would be one for sure. I find him delicious, soothing, stimulating…and a jolly good fellow! My mini lop rabbit agrees.

@Kenny…I am so very sorry that that happened. 5 years is a disgrace.
@Craig…for a change I think it great both are running the story. The issue needs to be addressed just like the gay panic defence.

  3. Tara Brown may well remember a story she covered when she was at WIN. My ex-brother-in-law murdered his two children, 5 and 12, during an access visit.
Claimed “diminished responsibility”. Got a total of six years, out in 5. Hope you will allow this link David –

The Sunday Night story on the futility and uselessness of Restraining Orders is one to watch too.
