Big Brother housemates in lockdown -each with a secret.

Now that 14 housemates are officially in Lockdown, Nine confirms the "Secrets" concept for the 2012 season of Big Brother.

As of yesterday afternoon the housemates, and several “reserves,” for Big Brother 2012 went into lockdown.

The 14 contestants, each accompanied by a friend as company, are now banned from all access to media and online before they enter the house at Dreamworld next Sunday.

Prior to their lockdown, Nine had gone stale on questions of whether the Big Brother “Secrets” was still part of the show. It was even desperate that TV Tonight not speculate on the inclusion of Secrets prior to the lockdown, for fear of housemtes getting wise to the concept.

Nine had included the “Secrets” as part of the show when it announced the revival but then immediately dropped it from all conversations.

However, all 14 housemates will be harboring a Secret from their fellow housemates.

It’s now more than a year ago that TV Tonight first floated the idea that Big Brother could be revived by basing it on the French version, Secret Story in which housemates are compelled to interact with one another to try and discover each secret and win cash prizes. Clearly we’ll be getting some version of that…

There has been speculation that Sydney socialite Ruby Jacenko is one of the 14, but in true BB style Nine won’t comment on such rumours.

The series launches 7pm Monday August 13 on Nine with a 90 minute edition, followed by one hour editions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and a half hour episode on Friday.

A one hour episode, presumably the first eviction is also set for Sunday August 19, with episodes ranging from 30 to 90 minutes in the second week.

So far no late night editions are currently scheduled on GO! but it has scheduled afternoon replays beginning 4:30pm August 14.

  1. I know for a fact that Nine tried to poach Sophie and Vernesa for The Shire to be intruders. But the girls turned it down due to contract restrictions with Ten.

they definatly did introduce us to some of the housemates in the last season not to sure about the seasons before that because i cant remember that far back LOL

  3. maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but i thought i remembered in previous seasons Ten introduced us to some housemates, or at least gave us some clues about them, a few weeks before the show started, not on every season but some of them? anyone remember if i’m right? anyway i thought we might get more of a ‘sneak peak’ at the hm’s by now, unless they are planning that sometime over the next week? it would surely stir more interest than just telling us they have secrets, which had been done before anyway.
