The first session of Athletics will see Usain Bolt as he begins the defence of his 200m title in the heats, while Kim Mickle and Kathryn Mitchell (women’s javelin) and Henry Frayne (men’s triple jump) are in qualifying action. There’s a full program of athletics in the evening. Sally Pearson comes into tonight’s women’s 100m hurdles final as the overwhelming favourite and a chance at breaking the world record of 12.21 sec. Not since Cathy Freeman in 2000 has Australia invested so much hope in an athlete. The men’s 1500m should be a super-fast final fought out between Kenyan duo Asbel Kiprop and Silas Kiplagat.

Men’s keirin: Shane Perkins (rounds>repechages>final)
Women’s omnium: Annette Edmondson (rounds)
Women’s sprint: Anna Meares (semi-finals>final)
It’s also the final day of track cycling with the women’s omnium decided ahead of the men’s keirin and women’s sprint. Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton are the ones to beat, but can Shane Perkins and Anna Meares fight back? And watch out for Annette Edmondson in the Women’s Omnium – the 20-year-old Adelaide rider arrives in London as the world championship silver medallist, with a shot at going one better on the Olympic podium.

The Kookaburras play their final pool match against Pakistan where they will be looking to finish top of their group ahead of the semi-finals. The second best performed men’s hockey nation at Olympics Games, they have fallen down the rankings in recent times and should find our boys too tough.

Women’s apparatus – beam & floor: Lauren Mitchell (final)
It’s the finals for Lauren Mitchell’s two favourite apparatus, floor and beam, and she could win Australia’s first medals in both. With a world championship gold on the floor in 2010, the 21-year-old comes to London as our first genuine chance of a podium finish in artistic gymnastics.
