ITV has released two teasers  for Season 3 of Downton Abbey that focus on the showdown between Violet Crawley (Dame Maggie Smith) and Cora Crawley’s mother (Shirley MacLaine).

Creator Julian Fellowes has previously said that the third season’s themes will be about financial woes and the Irish Troubles.

Seven plans to air this in February.

  2. I enjoy DT but find the wait between series rather hard! Seems a long wait in between. Julian Fellowes is someone I really enjoy both as an actor and as a writer however, despite claiming rigorous research, they’ve had to admit various mistakes etc. in this series. If you’re dedicated to historical and bonnet dramas you can spot the occasional issue. Maggie Smith is marvelous and a sumptuous production overall. The one thing I always wonder about re historical dramas is how women in the UK etc didn’t freeze at dinner parties. Men would suit up of course but how women kept warm in their often very light and short sleeved fashions is beyond me.

  3. Oh joy, what a delicious combination, Maggie Smith and Shirley Maclaine trading barbs. All that’s missing is Judi Dench.

    I just love these ‘grand dames’.
