Use of laptops, tablets and phones is proving popular while watching television, with Facebook slightly in front as the most popular platform in use.

The question on Second Screen use has been included for the first time in the annual survey, which is currently receiving reader votes for the fourth year in a row.

Apple TV / iTunes is currently leading the other new category, which asks about use of IPTV services.

Readers are also having their say on plenty of other questions including the most Untrustworthy Network, the Most Reliable for Starting on Time, Use of Catch-Up Sites, preferred TV Guide, preferred Multichannel, and more.

You can  Take the Audience Inventory survey here.

Results will be released in coming weeks.

  1. That pic is me…except I have a large screen monitor and pc…and tilted slightly more to the left….both the PC and the TV go on when I get up and off when I go to bed…
And Dayman is correct…I do things around what I am watching…and duck in when something tweeks my interest.

  2. My theory based on my experiences.

A big part of reality TV and a lot of other TV in general is designed so anyone flicking through the channels can stay and not be lost. As well as to be on while people are doing things around the house, ironing, cooking and so forth.

As a result, those programs are not only more accessible at any point during them, they also require less focus. So viewers are more likely to pick up a tablet or laptop and do something else when watching.

I would touch my tablet watching a scripted Drama. However so much tv, light TV, reality TV doesn’t require my full attention. In fact even if I want to watch it can get boring due to how little attention is needed.

  3. I am on my laptop most of the time while watching TV. When an ad comes on it is straight back to the internet. This trend must be a concern to advertisers.
