Queensland to get delayed Big Brother finale

What the? Daylight Saving will delay the Grand Final of Big Brother into its home state of Queensland.

A bizarre turn of events will see Daylight Saving delay live broadcasts, including the Grand Final, of Big Brother into its home state of Queensland.

Daylight Saving begins on October 7, and while Live episodes will air in New South Wales, Victoria, Canberra and Tasmania, it will be delayed in Queensland, just as it is already in South Australia and Western Australia.

This will impact on the nomination and eviction episodes.

Keeping the ultimate winner under wraps will be impossible on Twitter, social media and newspaper websites.

Big Brother executive producer Alex Mavroidakis described the situation as “bizarre” but told the Courier Mail there was nothing Nine could do about it.

“You can’t show it live in Queensland (from 5.30pm) because Sunday night news is Sunday night news – that’s what people watch to get their news at the end of the weekend. And 5.30pm is too early to show it,” he said. “It’s just the country we live in. There’s nothing you can do about it.”

Well, not entirely.

Nine does have three channels, but it’s not about to broadcast a big event on GO! or GEM into other states.

It could also opt to begin the finale at 7:30pm in NSW and Victoria and 6:30pm in Queensland. That would make it Live in all three.

It’s a slap in the face to be broadcasting the a major event from Queensland and not even airing Live into Queensland.

  1. So the schedule on GO! and GEM will just stay the same? They have no problem whatsoever showing NRL live on GEM WA or GEM SA to please rugby league fans here, but can’t do the same for programs like BB which rate far less? Pfft…

  2. To David knox:
Well its quite arogant on channel 9 that why bother showing all new Dallas… all new underbelly all new howzat all new big brother show all at the same time in the week? whats the go with everything rushed in at the same time.. Afraid they might not get high ratings if they shuffle them programes on its own on other months of the year? i bet. They need to look into that and they have to stop publishing all new everythings ame time. Because this requiers enough room for new shows such as big brother and such. Having too much new stuff all fill in from 7p until midnight is far too much programes.. They need to slow down. Give some room between programes such as big brother because sometimes big brother show requiers enough space if it ends up going alittle longer by accident. Not perfectly end at 830p as an example. Anyways know they have issues with the times and what not. It aint daylight saving for us in brisbane unless it is first time ?

  3. @jezza the first original one – Channel Nine time would mean moving all of our clocks back by 17 minutes. Then programs advertised for 8:30 would appear as if they were actually starting at 8:30.

  4. I wouldn’t call this “oddly” i would call this playing “stupidity” because first channel 9 has to think smart first. Ask yourself why advertice so much (new) programes and at the very same time brand new Big brother show and eveything seems that all the action and atractions are from 7pm until midnight. Why choose to have BB show in August knowing theres going to be day-light saving soon and at the very same time new series such as howzat and dallas and all this new underbelly and now all this new other australian series. Why have everything all new filling up at the very same time when they know that if they going to shove in big brother along the way they going to get delays… hickups and and what not.

This is complete playing stupidity by channel 9. And dont say its not. Why not bring big brother all new big brother on a month season where there is no interuptions nor issues along the way nor that ideas of shuffling this and that other times like a box of mixing cards. That is not smart at all. They have issue and not only daylight saving but at the very same time they messing programes all over one place to another knowing that everything they are brining is bran new stuff and in a week later channel 9 gets bored and they want to move the new stuff around in circles.

  5. @ nik c….. yes I agree the whole country t should move their clocks to ch9 time it is the right thing to do.

Yet another tv exec makes a statement that is soon exposed as lacking consistency or credibility.

Just remember folks ch9 knows best

  6. How about NSW & Vic move clocks forward 1/2 an hour instead of an hour! Qld can move forward 1/2 an hour and SA an hour then all 4 states are in the same time zone for summer where TV, radio & business benefit! This old mean compromise for some states! Bout time we had a National solution!

  7. Giving the rights to anything that the arrogant monster Nine has become is tantamount to giving the Taliban an arms contract.
Gyngels recent dismissal of any questions regarding Friday night games and Rugby League in general showed a level of arrogance that even Kerry Packer would have found disturbing.
This of course is only a Television show and not a long term contract affecting a game a large part of the population hold dear,so the simple fact it is still on air or has not already been bumped for no apparent reason is probably a bonus to those desperate enough to watch it.

  8. JarrodJ…. It’s “bizarre” to hold a major TV event and to broadcast it live to every other geographical area but the one in which it is actually happening. BB is also very important and valued by Qld.

A parallel would have been holding an Olympic event in London and broadcasting it live to the rest of the world but holding it back for London viewers. Those poor London viewers would then need to avoid any social media etc if they didn’t want to hear the result before they actually got to watch it themselves.

I think oztvheritage’s solution what they should do under current circumstances. Not alter the news but to move to 7.30pm start.

  9. Well i am in Adelaide and dont cxare as i have VAST Satellite service on a travllers permit and get my tv from the east coast so i will get it live on imparja television

  10. Just messy. I hear there’s an SMH article out today about a ‘backrub’ or something being too sleazy for family TV time. No-one said anything in the media about the Underbelly ad having a gun pointed at the audience during Olympic family time…albeit some parents were objecting in social media about that.

  11. Nine aired it’s news at 7:30pm last night in QLD due to the Rugby and regularly broadcasts its news at 5 or 5:30pm (and sometimes even 4pm) in summer due to the cricket.

Seems a bit of a copout to me

  12. Nine aren’t smart enough to come up with a compromise! It would make to much sense to make it a live final from 7:30pm in the southern states and live from 6:30pm in the northern states. Here in the Territory we go by Queensland time for out TV anyway, so all our TV is half an hour earlier than advertised times and you just get use to it.

It would make it easier though if all the southern states just got rid of the out dated timeshifting, or as you call it daylight saving and moved with the times. You do realise that it doesn’t actually increase the amount of sunlight you receive.

  13. This is crazy stuff and can’t see it happening. This will change. For sure. They will Either move the news to 5pm in qld ( for one episode- big deal) or move Bb to 7.30pm start in other states.
