Report: Nine, Foxtel to keep NRL rights

Updated: Reports today suggest Nine and Foxtel will keep the NRL rights in a deal worth $1B.

The Australian reports the ARL will announce Nine and Foxtel will keep the NRL rights, in a deal is tipped to be worth $1B..

But there are also rumours that TEN could also be in on the deal.

The Roar reports under the new agreement, Nine will retain all representative games and three free-to-air matches. FOX Sports will continue with five games, including Monday Night Football.

It is understood that both TEN and Seven were buoyant about their chances of a deal, but the new ARL Commission has taken the offer from the incumbent broadcasters.

A spokesman for Nine said this morning the report was “premature” as no deal had yet been formalised.

The deal may deal also include a range of new innovations that will extend the reach of the code beyond TV to tablets and mobile.

The ARL is expected to hold a press conference this morning.

UPDATED: Now confirmed for Nine / FOX, please direct comments to subsequent story.

  1. Hahahahahha!!!!! I knew it, I was the only one who hoped and thought Ch9 and Foxtel will keep the NRL rights. Ch9 and Foxtel are the best Channels and have the Best Commentators!!! Yes!!! Thank You! ARL! Job Well Done!!! And Thank You David for this Great News!!!

  2. All games need to be shown live as the rediculous nature of two delayed games a week on Nine is an insult to the league and to all the fans. This is like Big Brother on Nine – internet and mobile devices have exponentially increased in availability and performance yet there is little online/mobile content – however this case is the opposite – plenty of online/mobile content in the form of live results and commentary but delayed telecasts for the sake of ratings.
