Rumour: Changes coming to Everybody Dance Now

Is TEN about to make some major changes to its new dance show after dire numbers and wholesale criticism?

TV Tonight is hearing whispers that TEN will make adjustments to the format, and possibly the episode output of Everybody Dance Now, following its dismal ratings debut.

Whilst there have been positive comments for the local dance acts, the show has been criticised for its format, over-use of US imports Kelly Rowland and Jason Derulo, stilted hosting by Sarah Murdoch and even technical aspects of the production.

Advertisers have also been in discussion with TEN about the low-audience numbers, which sank to 304,000 viewers on Monday night.

But the original format is being filmed week to week and has the advantage of hearing feedback while it is still in production.

  1. i don’t think anyone at TEN is capable of making a good programming decision but if I were a TEN programmer I would move it to Saturday & Sunday 6.00-7.30 immediately.

  2. jumpjakflash – two acts that have already appeared included the runner up of SYTYCD season 1 and the winner of SYTYCD season 2.

Can’t remember their names – but definitely remember their faces and their dance abilities.

I wonder if these two acts will just take their $10K and make their excuses and not continue – for the sake of their careers.

  3. 304,000 is terminal. No amount of change is going to turn that around into a hit. I think the kindest thing to do to the show is quietly put it down or send it off to Eleven where it’s going to do less damage.

And maybe Ten can then stop trying to ‘create’ reality show formats… The Hothouse, The Renovators and now EDN… stick to adopting overseas franchises as they can at least do that.

  4. perhaps altering the edit so its more about the celebration of the dancers which is clearly working and less about the competition between the two imports, less talking ‘up’ the acts and more just showing us the acts and less talking in between segments, Sarah’s monotonous tone kinda kills the momentum.

  5. That is good news…Sure the might be too late but Ten needs to be seen to be trying something to fix the problem. New Host would be awesome or even a Male co host would work. Somebody like a Andy G from Idol days – that can help carry the show.

  6. Well, that is good to hear, as the talent on the show has been astonishingly good thus far. It is the format and the staging that has let it down badly. I love the idea of dancers across a wide range of disciplines being showcased, that is an excellent idea that has potential viewer interest, but it needs a format that does not confuse or annoy viewers. I can’t see it making a comeback in the ratings as the publicity about it this week has been too negative. The damage has been done and the show is mortally wounded. Perhaps it can be revised and relaunched in non-ratings period over summer???

  7. If TV Tonight is hearing whispers then it must be true.

this blog is one of the most trusted on the web IMO 😉

I can see EDN staying on TEN but perhaps being pushed back to later timeslots

  8. It’s a shame to see such fantastic dancing talent placed in a poorly devised format.
My best friend audition and I’m thankful she didn’t get through. A show like this could break your career
