Former Gardening Australia presenter Colin Campbell has passed away after a short battle with cancer, aged 78.

Former Gardening Australia presenter Colin Campbell passed away this morning after a short battle with cancer, aged 78.

He was an original member of the Gardening Australia team, presenting for the program during its first year on air in 1990. His media career spanned three decades including as a radio host for 4BC and writing for Gardening Australia magazine and Brisbane’s Courier-Mail.

He also hosted gardening segments on Channel O (now TEN) for four years and Nine for one year.

Costa Georgiadis, host of Gardening Australia, said: “Colin was a down to earth passionate gardener and environmental champion, but also an enthusiastic family and community building leader. The Gardening Australia family will miss him and remember his warmth, humour and endless energy.”

Campbell was the founding president for the Queensland State Council of Australian Institute of Horticulture and a founding member for the Horticultural Media Association Queensland. In 2007, he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia and had also been a nominee for Queenslander of the Year and Australian of the Year.

He is survived by his wife, Bev, and four sons.

  2. Very very sad to hear. Can always remember watching gardening Australia on a sunday afternoon – colin along with peter cundall were the best presenters. RIP

  3. !! Vale Colin Campbell, R.I.P. I always found you such a gentle soul with a gentle, encouraging voice. I am sure every flower and tree bent their heads this morning as a mark of respect.
