Updated: Producer / Director Tony Scott, best known for the films Top Gun, Days of Thunder, and the TV shows The Good Wife & Numb3rs, has died.

Producer / Director Tony Scott, best known for the films Top Gun, Days of Thunder, and the TV shows The Good Wife and Numb3rs, has died, aged 68.

Scott, brother of Producer / Director Ridley Scott, jumped to his death from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon.

Reports indicate investigators found a suicide note in his car, which was parked on the bridge.

Scott has a lengthy and successful body of work dating back to the late 1960s, directing such films as Enemy of the State, The Fan, Crimson Tide, True Romance, The Hunger, Days of Thunder, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Top Gun.

With his brother Ridley, ScottFree Productions has produced shows like The Good Wife, Numb3rs, World Without End, The Pillars of the Earth and a number of telemovies.

Update: Unconfirmed reports suggest Scott had inoperable brain cancer.

  1. Yes indeed…Vale Mr. Scott. R. I. P. Condolences to Tony’s dear family – wife and twin sons in particular – friends, colleagues…and to us all.

    A reminder that we can all, no matter our successes, be subject to the darkest depths of despair and loss of hope. Agree with you there danny.

  2. Suicide is always a shock for those left behind.

    Mr Scott’s death is a reminder how mental illness doesn’t discriminate. Tony’s death is a tremendous loss to Hollywood.
