SBS will screen The 2012 Deadly Awards, recognising the Indigenous community, later this month.
The awards will be held in Sydney on September 25 and will screen on SBS five days later.
Held at the Sydney Opera House, the awards applaud excellence in all areas of the Indigenous community from health, education, employment and cultural advancement to music and the arts.
The Deadlys® showcase the outstanding achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and provide identifiable national and local role models to inspire all Australians, particularly young people.
The Deadlys® also play a major role in showcasing Indigenous talent in the Australian music scene.
In fact, The Deadlys® have it all – glamour, humour, music and fun, complete with fashion divas, footy legends, Olympic athletes, pop princesses and circus performers!
The awards also have a serious side as they pay respect to sporting legends of the past and honour the nation’s ‘quiet achievers’ in Indigenous health, education and employment.
Two of Australia’s brightest stars, Luke Carroll and singing sensation Casey Donovan, will host this year’s awards, which also include stunning musical performances. These include Jessica Mauboy with a song from her new film The Sapphires, Opera singer Deborah Cheatham performing a tribute to the late great legend Jimmy Little, Tasmania’s up-and-coming singer/songwriter Dewayne Everettsmith who is featured on Tourism Australia’s new campaign, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers from Circus Oz and rising stars of Aussie Hip Hop Yung Warriors.
As the anticipation builds to find out who has been the most deadly in 2012, finalists include last year’s winners of the Most Popular Television Show of the Year, Living Black, and SBS’s The Tall Man nominated for Film of the Year.
“We are preparing for a show that offers the highest standard of performance from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, and one which puts achievement and outstanding contribution centre stage,” Gavin says.
“One of the most enjoyable aspects for me as executive producer of The Deadlys® is the opportunity to showcase our unique Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to the wider Australian public, and also to put forward our remarkable role models – the finalists and winners in the award categories – on a national stage and honour that achievement.”
So for a fast-paced night of entertainment, glitz, glamour and grass-roots musicianship that is uniquely Australian be watching The Deadlys® only on SBS.
Sunday 30 September at 9.30pm on SBS ONE
Repeated Thursday 4 October at 9.30pm on SBS TWO and
Wednesday 3 October at 9.30pm on NITV

Damn. David was on 10%, and I’ve already spent half.
The Deadly nominations were done back in July, still a few weeks before The Sapphires was released. So, what isn’t nominated, can’t win.
David – I know this isn’t a links-fest, but interested readers can get information on the nominees at:

Uh oh…you sound too sure about that. The bet’s off!
@ Dodge – I’ll bet you ten million dollars that The Sapphires doesn’t win a thing. Game on!
You watch The Sapphires win a sh*tload!
