Once a successful partner in a busy Melbourne criminal law practice, Jack Irish slipped into an alcohol-fueled depression after his wife was murdered. First he lost his cases, then his self-esteem. But after hitting rock bottom, he finally started putting his life together again and has become a part-time investigator. In Jack’s first case, “Bad Debts,” he uncovers big-time corruption in the police, the church and the state government. In “Black Tide,” Jack helps out an old family friend whose son has gone missing – for a good reason. Starring international screen star Guy Pearce (Memento, Mildred Pierce) as Jack Irish, this TV movie cycle based on the crime novels by Peter Temple offers a collection of suspense-filled whodunits with a charismatic lead and charming secondary characters.

  1. Sorry TT no source – just assumption a telemovie of that calibre will go out Sunday 8:30 – but you are quite right – with all that fast-tracked US drama 10 may put it somewhere else – but seems unlikely to me.

  2. Sunday night has been crying out for an Australian drama choice all year and Nine has been the great beneficiary by having the courage to program House Husbands ( and doing amazingly well for a suburban melodrama better suited to mid-week). That said, in October we’ll have Jack Irish on the ABC, Julian Assange on Ten and HH on Nine carving up the available audience. It’s such a shame to do this to Australian drama.
